A while back there was a post regarding a mystery button of the TN loader control joystick. I looked at mine and did't think I had one. Now I'm not so sure. Further playing revealed a ring that slides up and down and appears to click into position in both the up and down position. Is this what folks were referring to? Does anybody know what this ring does? How about the red and green "knobs" sticking out of it?

Thanks for your help. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The ring slides up and down to lock the loader joystick so no one can come and accidentally drop the loader onto something or someone. It locks hard and you might have to wiggle the joystick some to get it to lock as it will slide just so far till it hits the lock. I lock my loader if I am parking it near somewhere that kids might play or untrustworthy people might rome. I know anyone can get a key for my TN but very few people can figure out how to move it (as far as moving it in a hurry without making a scene) and it won't help them if they do get it to move if the loader is parked in the ground /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for the buttons, can't help you. Mine don't have them and is just fine with it /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Mine has a green and red button on the lock-ring. When the lock-ring is in the up (unlocked) position, the green button pops out. When the ring is in the locked position, the red button pops out. I found this one out by accident when I somehow locked the joystick in the middle of a job and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't move anymore. I thought I broke my new toy... I keep the manual behind the seat in the cab so I read about the joystick - and to my relief the accidental locking wasn't a bug, it was a feature.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that some of the New Hollands with HST had buttons on the loader joystick that could be pressed to shift the transmission into low range in order to dig. When you had the bucket full, you pressed the button again and it shifted it back to high range. Could that be what it is?

Thanks Guys for the info. I actually only found out that it moved when the machine was off. I slid it to both positions and it still appeared that the lever moved so I discounted the locking feature which is what I had first assumed. I'll be at the tractor this afternoon (raining) so I'll check it out. PS My manual for the loader is from my TN75S and is 1 1/2 years older than my TN75D so the ring is not mentioned.

As far as moving the TN without making a scene, you've got me laughing. I remember when I took delivery and the dealer showed me all the controls, let me driv earoudn and then delivered the machine. The first time I climbed in the cab alone, I kept moving levers and lettin gout the clutch and nothing happened. Almost drove myself crazy. Finally figured out that you had to select a range and gear first and then use the Hydro Shuttle Lever. If you put the Hydro Shuttle Lever in forward and then select 2nd gear, the lever returns to Neutral. I'm sure its a great safety feature, but sometimes I think the machine has a second operator. Oh yea, I forgot that's what the computer is../forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No - the "rabbit/turtle" buttons are only on the Class III (TC35D/40D/45D) HST Boomers with a factory joystick.

They are fun to learn to use aren't they /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The locking ring is hard to get locked the first few times (at least on mine it was) after you use it a few times it works a little easier.

Also, I wonder if the red and green buttons are to tell you if the loader joystick is locked or not. Do they both stick out or do they pop out once the loader is locked ( I would think the green would be out for unlocked and red for locked but this is just a guess).

That's exactly how it works - when it's unlocked the green button is extended, and when it's locked the red one pops out. Before I figured out what that locking ring was there for, I was totally baffled at why they'd put those two little green and red buttons on the joystick. They didn't seem to do anything.

The next adventure is to figure out what all the different power outlets are for... I think I've got four or five of them scattered all over the tractor.
