This is for you guys with TN65 or TN75s. I don't know if there is enough space on a compact's deck to make it work, but there might be. I bought the cup holder from a marine supply store for $16 with my discount. I had thought about making one out of wood but I wanted the resilience of nylon in case I kicked it with my work boot. These cupholders list for $20 so you could build a few out of wood and have an extra on hand if you broke one. I bought a couple of junk harddrives from a computer repair store, you could probably find those for free but the closest store to me gives nothing away. I traded them for 6 junk harddrives from a dumpster diving packrat I know ( should have thought of him first, oh well) and took them apart for the magnets. I found out some old drives didn't even use magnets, so this cupholder was educational as well as practical. If you do this and have never messed with the magnets in a harddrive, watch out! These things are dangerous! I've never seen magnets with this much power. I've read about them but until you watch someone pinch their fingers with a couple of them you really don't realize how powerful they are! They also break easily. I don't know if it was from playing with them too much or slamming the cupholder on the deck but I cracked one already. I used wood screws to secure them and they're holding up well. Anybody know of a glue that will stick to nylon or delrin or whatever the he11 this plastic is? Here is a couple of pics.
