I have a TN65 FWD with a loader and filled rear tires. I'll be plowing in central Pennsylvania...I was wondering what size plow I could pull without overtaxing the tractor. 3 bottom? 4 bottom?

Any help would be appreciated.

The old rule of thumb was 15hp per bottom with the added help of 4 wheel drive you should be able to pull a mounted 3 bottom without much problem. This should give your tractor a good workout which is what it was designed for.

From real world experience, Spencer200 is right, it will pull a 3 bottom mounted plow. The rule of thumb is actually 15-20 hp per bottom depending on plow size and soil. I pull a 3-16 International plow with my TN set up like you described and it pulls fine. The TN can also handle a 10 foot disc on hilly ground and a 12' disc on flat ground. Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys...for your help. Good thing you mentioned the disk because I'm in the market for one...now I know what size to get.

My grandfather owned a '56 John Deere 50 that pulled a 2-bottom plow...with some difficulty. The John Deere had about 20-some horsepower at the drawbar. The fits in the parameters you stated.

Thanks again...CL

Funny you should ask /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As a matter of fact, I spent all last Saturday morning doing this very thing!
I have a TN65, but only 2WD and I can eaily pull a 3 bottom turning plow.
You should't have any trouble with a 3 bottom, maybe even a 4 bottom with your 4WD, depending on the size of the plow points and mold boards. The soil type and moisture content will make a difference too. If the place you are working tends toward moist or "heavy" soil you might want to stick with the 3 bottom.
