Fuel tank shield is an option when the tractor is ordered new. Some units had it ordered, others did not.

Yes, it is an option. Worthwhile option.

ahhhhhh I bought mine off the lot. they always have a lot of tractors in stock so you can write the check and have it delivered. Never realized I would need to look at the time. My first tractor. Boy did I learn. lol Next time I will have em weld a custom one on first.
Can I pick the design I like? Or maybe combine more than one. heh heh heh.

Why not just buy one from Messicks and install it?

well I grabbed the tank today. was going to see if i could do something to un-crush the front of the tanks. it was smashed back far enough the metal band was completely trapped.

Well sitting outside in the sun all week it just naturally went back to it's original shape and the band was laying on the ground nest to it!!!!!

I am going to re-flatten the strap. Is the tank polypropylene? I would like to make a repair on it if possible. I think I am going to wrap the band with metal tape to keep the sharp edges away from the tank. I am sure they had a reason for putting razor sharp edges on the strap that holds the plastic fuel tank.....

Would something like this work? Cut a piece of plate to put under tank, to be held in by straps, then put wood shims between tank and straps. I'm just guessing with this, but it may be a cheap fix. Sorry for the poor quality of my CAD drawing, I think the toner is low. Ha Ha. Scroll down after opening attatchment.

I might work. In my case both times the damage had come from the front strap cutting into the botton of the tank. I think if I make an L shaped plate to mount in front and under the front of the tank and between the strap and tank it might solve some problems.

I found some rector seal epoxy and packed it into the hole. when it cures I'll put some fuel in it and see if it holds. If so I can do some chores around the place until I can buy a new tank and make the "boot."
It ain't easy when a mans tractor isn't available. lol

Well I scrapped my second fuel tank today. All things considered I can;t complain. The rear support had been torn loose, the plate bent under and backwards for the past year draggin the strap. I was pushing over some titi and bush hogging it today when I smell fuel. hmmmmm. I have had the brush actually pull the fuel line off the tank before so I shut her down and get off to look. The front of the tank was smashed and the strap had cut into the poly and fuel was pouring out. crap. I jumped on and raced back up to the house. jumped off and got a bucket to catch fuel. Actually saved about half of it, five gallons. I had half a tank on the guage when I headed for the house and a quarter tank a couple minutes later.
I pulled the fenders, seat and deck plates. tomorrow I am going to hit it with the pressure washer and lube all the grease fittings. When I get the new tank installed I am going to look into buying ot fabricating a skid plate. **** the way I use it I should just put a skid plate under the whole tractor. LOL

I feel your pain :( Not to awful long ago I destroyed a tank on my TC40D when a landscape rake flipped up while backing up and holed the tank right at the bottom. Anyone that thinks that the rear mounted tank is indestructible on the Class III Boomer's is just kidding themselves. S*** really does happen guys, better get used to it or start building a cage around your tractor like Henro did.
