Here is a picture of a zerk fitting on the rear wheel of a TN 70A. Do I grease it? How much ? will I "blow" a seal??? What kind of grease? Same grease as I use on FEL?

Yep that looks like a grease zerk to me too Bob. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Suppose we should give it a pump or two of grease since it is a zerk?

OK I'm pulling your leg a bit. Any grease in a zerk is better than no grease in a zerk. Just don't pump a full tube in there and ruin your day. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tractoring for the most part should be an enjoyable experience. Do what you can, where you can and leave the rocket science to the NH dealer.

I am in no hurry to grease it until I know what I am doing. haste makes waste. I hope some of the TBN folks can let me know what they do. next call, to the dealer!

PS But TBN always has an expert. Just need to be patient.

DB,

Having recently purchased a used TN65 I understand your questions about the various drain plugs and zerks. These are things that need to be known if one is to properly maintain a tractor.

Per my manual the zerk on the real wheel is for NLGI 2 grease or Ambra Gr9 (if you prefer NH brand). I believe the procedure is to pump it in just until it oozes out the back side of the hub, and to do so on a regular basis based upon level of use.

You seem interested in properly maintaining your investment. If you do not have an Operators manual then might be a good idea to pick one up. The manual I have has a maintenance section that seems to do a good job of covering the what, when, where, and how of routine maintenance procedures.....plus it has decent illustrations.

My manual is in the mail (literally) and I am not sure if it will ever arrive. next week, I will buy one (ouch$$).
Thanks for the information.

Does your manual tell you the torque setting for the hydraulic drain nut on the tranny and PTO case?
