TN75D-Change boot shifter--remove gear shift knob

Can anyone give me some information on how to replace the shifter boot on my New Holland TN75D tractor? I cannot get the shifter knob off...I have seen where it says to heat the boot and slip it on (turned inside out). The new boot hole seems to be so small to go over the shifter knob. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Welcome to TBN. I have taken the shifter knob off to do this. The knob is a tolerance fit over the shifter, but it can be difficult to get off and sometimes remains somewhat loose after replacing.

I agree with this. I no longer have my TN75D but I did remove the boot. Just kept turnign adn wigling until it came off. A little glue helped upon replacement

Thank you all for your responses. I figured if I kept on wiggling the knob would eventually come off but then wouldnt want to stay on even with epoxy as I know a lot of vehicles dont stay. So, I did heat up the boot and stretched and stretched until it fit across the knob. Sure did think it was going to rip the boot but it didn't.

On a side note, I worked on a few TN tractors without cabs and found a HUGE price difference between the shift knobs for cab vs non-cab on NH tractors with the latter being reasonable.
