My local NH dealer stocks the TN, TB and TM and seems not interested in the TL/TS. Thats good to know about the TN/TS mdl overlap.

Thanx. I was only looking at the top end of the TN line b/c it gives just enough PTO hp so going down one mdl wouldnt work. I understand about the need for 4wd but not in all cases. It would be nice if 2wd was offered. However, your suggestion of going to the TL is probably best as transmission choices are much better. I just dont want to spend more than is necessary....

Maybee you need a slightly used tractor. I just looked up the TN 95 specs and from what i saw it was 80 pto hp, and 95 eng hp. ( not sure if that is right ).

Now.. in keeping in that range, and 2wd.. have you looked at a NH 7610s They can be had as 2wd, and pto hp is 90.

I have one and absolutely love it. Pulls a 15' batwing mower thru tall brush like no tomorrow. Mine's a 2002 model and 2wd. You can get then used for a decent price.

If you can find a new-ish one.. it's a great tractor. Most of the local governments in the tri-county area where I live used/use 7610s as road mowing tractors.

soundguy: Yes, Im certainly going to buy used. Yes, Ive looked (online) at the 7xx0 series along w/ others (TW locally). Id like to get as new a tractor as possible though. All of the interesting used tractors around here are pretty nearly worn out. I did find a TL90 2wd via the NH used locator for < 20K w/ rather low hrs which also has the 24x24 transmission. Oddly it was less expensive than most of the 7xx0s I found. Im surprised your 7610 was made in 2002...thats very new. I thought that mdl was discontinued somewhat earlier. What transmission does it have? I really like the hi/lo clutchless shift feature and thats got to make haying a lot more pleasant.

I suppose the reason I even started this thread was that I figured the 95 would be most cost effective than a similarly powered upscale mdl. In other words my 'cheap' side was flaring up. Thanx for all infos to the contrary. Here its not always possible to have a good selection of used machines to view (or even new for that matter). Thanx again...

AFAIK.. 2002 was the last year made. I got mine with 680 hrs on it at a price of 18,xxx.00 The prev owner used it in an orchard and kept hitting limbs due to the tractors size. It dented the left fender quite a bit and put a few dents in the sun shade... all easilly straightened. Prev. owner traded for something smaller that wouldn't hit trees.. like a tc 45/48.. etc.

I felt I got a great deal and lots of tractor.. adn the prev owner dinged it up enough to make it affordable.

It has the 8x2 gear tranny with independent pto.

Chris, the 7610s is a great tractor but it was only available with a 8x2 tranny which is not a great tranny for haying. The more forward gears the better.

The 7610s didn't come with dual power did it?

The 7610s didn't come with dual power.. but I believe the 7610II did.

ford/nh's time tested 8x2 is a good bullet proof tranny. Might not be great for hay.. but it's great to mow in. I mow in 5th with a 15' mower...No lack of power.

Yes, it was the II that had the dual power transmission. This is the one Im interested in. The TWxx I looked at several wks ago had the same set up.

ETA: or maybe it was the 7710II that had the dual power transmission...too many mdl numbers to remember

The 7610 and 7710 were basically the same tractor. The main difference was that the 7610 was a low profile version of the 7710.

Chris, you are right, the tranny is a great tranny but it just lacks the extra gears for when you want to go a certain speed for a certain crop condition. For a chore tractor it is great though.

Dual-Power has been around since 1981 over here. The Blue Power Special of the x600 series had DP, Factory installed MFD, on the 5600 up models as options.
