I've been using a 52" rotory mower for high weed mowing (side jobs) but have found that some times it gets a little tight on some of the "lots" that I mow and corners are near impossible plus mowing along driveways gets a little "iffy" at times. I've been thinking about buying a flail mower but have never used one. My question is; is it worth investing in one and will it work in tall weed mowing or will the weeds just get wrapped up on the "drum"?

In order to "invest" in this I must convince my banker (the wife) that it is "needed" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hadn't thought about the maneuverability of a flail. Guess it wouldn't stick out the back so far as a bush hog. I've heard that they require a bit more hp for the same width of cut.

One advantage of a flail is you don't get the windrowing.

They have a lot of cutters to maintain. However, one wonders if maintaining a lot of smaller ones isn't maybe easier than maintaining a single one that has blades on the end attached with 400+ ft lb bolts only accessible either underneath or through a peep hole in the deck.

I noticed in the Agri Supply catalog that they have a couple different flails available.
