Looking at new tractors and my brain is telling me no, but my gut says yes. So my question to you, would you pay a little more (around $2000) just because you like one tractor (NH) over another (Mahindra)?

That is a tough question. I believe the Mahindra has good reviews. One thing I would investigate on the Mahindra is the dealer. Actually any brand I would investigate the dealer. How long has the dealer had the Mahindra and what is his longevity with the product. Also let us know what models your comparing. New Holland does make a few "built to compete models and you may find it a lot closer in price and compareable. I personally elected to stay with one of the big three when I was buying. But this is your money and I believe you will find good reviews here on the Mahindra.

I am a discount shopper, I appreciate a good deal as much as the next, but keep in mind you will probably have this investment for a very long time so if your more comfortable on one than the other, that is important to consider. $2,000 over 10 years = $200 a year=$0.55 a day /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Of course you can insert your timeframe and include interest if you like..... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I find that I kick myself later if I scrimp on something like that.

Yes, I would. And I don't mean that to imply anything pro or con for the two brands you mentioned, but if you buy one, knowing that you liked a different one better, I think you'll be thinking and wishing you had bought the one you liked best, and you're more likely to find every little fault with your second choice.

wonko,

Welcome to TBN, you came to the right place for answers. You don't give a price range so I don't know if you are comparing $10,000 or $20,000 tractors. For the 10 grand figure I would balk at paying $2,000 extra for the one I liked but for 20 grand I would be willing. That was my situation, I could have bought a NH TC-30 package for $2,000 less than I paid for my JD 4210 package. I liked the Deere better, it was a more modern design, and the dealership had treated me well in the past and was closer to me than the NH seller was.

With the factors of size, hp, comfort, features, dealer support, etc. being close to equal I would advise you pay the extra dollars and be happy with your first tractor. You might also get a written quote for the Mahindra if it's comparable to the NH and visit the NH dealer, telling them you want to buy their tractor BUT it's too much more $$, can they match the other dealer's quote? Good luck !!!

You'll forget about the extra $2k long before you get over not buying what you wanted in the first place.

I like gut instincts.

When I sit on my tractor, I don't think about the money I spent. I think about how much I like it.

I try to get rid of the "should have", "could have" thoughts the older I get...... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Those " Gut Feelings " are just common sense trying to tell you whats right.

Wonko the final choice will be up to you. However, saving is no bargain if you end up with a product that you don't like.

I stayed with the major players when choosing.

My answer would be yes. I don't think you will think about the cost in 10 or 20 years but you will still have the tractor. I went up one size tractor because I just liked the looks better. Everytime I use it I think I am glad I didn't get the smaller tractor.
