To go by your gut or not??

Just to throw out one other factor. The resale value of Kubota / NH / Deere is better than the lesser brands. How much obviously depends on where you live.

The most important thing about any sale is trusting the dealer that your buying from. If you feel that the Mahindra dealer will be around for the next 20 years to service your tractor and your confident in their skills and support than it might be a consideration. In my mind the extra 2k to jump to any of the big 3 is well worth the money in the long run.

Wow, looks like a stirred something up. Actually I just got off the phone with the NH dealer (who I've gotten a very good impression of so far) and he's got one on the lot that he's worked with me on price. As it stands TC40, 4WD, FEL $18,600. The Mahindra 4110, 4WD, FEL $18,250. To be fair, I haven't negotiated on the Mahindra side as much so I should be able to get a better price, but I think I've made my decision. Thanks for all the posts and help, this is a great forum, I'll post pics when everything is finalized.

Absolutely. No question. Buy the tractor you want the first time. You save in the long run.

Mikim, that's exactly how I learned to buy quality the first time. The old man never quite got that concept down until later, when I retrained him. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif He's doing pretty good now.

wonko,

As you must have realized by reading all our well-meant advice, your fellow TBN members enjoy helping others spend their hard-earned dollars. You are fortunate to have located this site before making a purchase, I didn't discover TBN until nearly a year after I bought my JD. Because I did a lot of research and took the time to shop around I was able to make a great deal and I am very pleased with my choice of tractor. Just curious, how did you learn about TBN?

Sounds to me like your NH dealer is doing a good job for you, that is worth a lot, and I concur with another member's post which asked if Mahindra will still be around in the future.
You are better off buying a brand which assures you of the availability of parts and service 10 to 20 years from now.

I believe it was me that questioned?? However, I was not questioning Mahindra longevity, I was more questioning the dealer handling Mahindra. Too many times the dealer himself will try to move up to one of the big three or another that he thinks would do him better and leave Mahindra sit. Mahindra is a good tractor.

Wonko,

Can you afford the $2000.00? That is the real question much more than your gut feeling. Most of the people responding have suggested that you will probably regret it if you go with the cheaper choice, the other side of the equation is if you are unable to provide something in the near future because of the extra monry you spent. What about the gut feeling of your wife about that new ring, that trip to Hawaii, the HDTV, and so on.

In addtion, two thousand dollars will make a cheaper tractor much more productive with attachments as somebody posted. For example as much as I like to argue for HST, a gear tractor with one implement that represents the difference in price between two tractors is vastly superior to a virgin HST. A cheaper tractor with a heated cab in a better tool for blowing snow in the winter.

Good Luck,

KNotMe
