Looking for some input. On my parents property they are wanting to replant one of their neglected pastures. The first one they want to start with is small 3 acre piece. They are torn on if they should sprig Coastal or Tifton85 in this field or if it would be better to go with seed (common bermuda or maybe giant bermuda). There are a few options of getting sprigs locally within 1-1.5 hours of their place. We dont have access to a "sprigging machine". Is it possible to disc the area then roll it then spread the sprigs and roll again? The field does have water access so watering is possible. They are located in Seguin TX if that helps. Any information is appreciated, if anyone has spriged before by hand i would love your input.

Never sprigged by hand. That would be very labor intensive. Personally I would disc and seed. A rear tine tiller would work well in this application. You may want to look at an over seeder. These can be rented if you don't own them.
