I thought I would wait for another year before I did this BUT. Since JD has 5.9% on any leftover tractors I priced one.
I have a 2001 4300 hydro, mid pto, folding rops,r-4's and the 3rd scv. I have 650 hrs on it in 13 months of owner ship and no problems. I can keep my loader and front blade and just trade tractor for tractor. I priced a 4400 with the same extras for $5K difference. Seems like a good deal for the hrs I have on mine. OK tell me what you guys think. Am I NUTS or WHAT

Danna..your not nuts..more like a smart shopper.
Not sure about your region, but in our region tractor sale in the early spring sky rockets, and one very lucky to purchase a left over or a darn good second hand tractor.
For $5K differents I would consider up grading thats if it came w/a full warranty.

Well. I did it!!! I found a 4400 demo with 53 hrs (2001) foldable rops, mid pto, r-4s, 4th & 5th scv with power beyound outlet and a 48 JD back hoe with 18" bucket. I was trading my 4300 in but sold it instead for $16K and the GB loader went with it. the 4400 price was $17600 and 5K for the hoe and have a new GB 260 loader coming for $2875. I think I did alright and I get a BH to boot!!!!!!
I'll get pic's when I get it.

Just a note on dealing with cornhussker deere. I got my 4400 & 48 BH by truck last night about 6:00. I found Ron to be very open and honest with all of my questions. He gave me a good price at first with no bickering. My new rig is all I expected to be. I would buy from Ron again. He even sent oil and filters for two engine services.
Thanks Ron

Hey, DDT, If I were clossser to Ron, I would trade my 4100 in for 4115 or 4110. I want that folding ROPS pretty bad!

I discovered another aspect of trading a tractor just this morning. Our manure pile (horse manure and wood chips) was getting rather large. Last night my wife asked, "Might we use the manure spreader to distribute this pile onto our new field?". Hmm, more seat (more about this later) time. "Well, I guess we can.", I replied. We hooked the manure spreader (ground drive) to our old faithful Work Horse 16 hp garden tractor then I used the FEL on our TC25D to fill the manure spreader. Our barn is about an eigth of a mile from the field so I was getting a bucket load, traveling to the field, filling the manure spreader then going back to the barn for another load. By the time I got back with another load, the manure spreader was just about empty. It took us 3 hours to spread all the manure that has built up over the past few months. This effort would have been a whole lot more difficult without 2 tractors.

What about the seat? I have lumber stored in the rafters directly above my tractor in my garage. I pulled the tractor out of the garage into the driveway, then went into the house to get something. Came back out, went to climb in the seat and noticed that something appeared to have dripped down the back of the seat. It wasn't raining and the drip looked partially dried. So, like any good male, I put my finger tip in it and smelled it. You only get two hints to guess what it was. It wasn't water and we have cats. Yep, seems one of the cats was using the lumber stored in the rafters as a potty. Oh joy. It wasn't all that much, but you don't need much from a cat. Of course, I had already sat in it to pull the tractor out of the garage. Sigh. From now on I will always remember to tilt the seat forward. I might move the lumber as well. Probably need an umbrella to move the lumber. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Mike,

Cats!! I have mixed emotions about them. We have two now and one that died a couple of years back. The ones that lived should have been dead and buried. Our buddy YoYo was a good cat. The others.... ya want em!!

Need to move that lumber!! Oh... wait, there was a post awhile back where someone mentioned that some racoons used his woodpile for their latrine. Mmmmmm.... nicely scented wood smoke. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
