Hi all,

I subscribe to Norton, by Symantec, for my anti-virus, firewall, etc....

I got an email from them today, in which they offer a "scan tool," to check websites one uses, to see if they're still vulnerable to the "Heartbleed" virus. There's a field you enter your websites address in.

I'm not a tech-guy. And it's not like TBN contains critical personal information, but nevertheless, I thought it would be a good idea to check if one of the sites I signitifcant time on is vulnerable to this "Heartbleed" virus. So I did--and Norton said "'https://www.tractorbynet.com' could not be checked:" and said "Something is wrong here". (Please see below for the full text of the results I got).

Here is the Norton "Heartbleed Virus" Scan Tool: Safe Web - Heartbleed Check

I entered Error and it came back as
Norton's "Heartbleed Virus Scan Tool" said:
Everything checks out ok
'https://www.yahoo.com' is not vulnerable to the Heartbleed attack

But when I entered TractorByNet.com | Compact Tractors | John Deere, Kubota, New Holland, it came back as

Unable to connect to destination. Why?

I clicked on "Why" and got:

The issue could be one of the following:

The URL might have been entered incorrectly.
The server might not exist.

Unable to connect to destination.
The issue could be one of the following:

There was a protocol error.

Destination disconnected.
There is a technical issue that prevents us from checking the site.
Connection timed out.

HTTP URL provided.
The server is an HTTP server rather than HTTPS (Heartbleed does not affect HTTP).

I'm probably concerned about nothing, but I've gone as far as I can go here. I'm hoping a webmaster or a mod can comment on the above, and explain why Norton can't "clear" TBN as not vulnerable.

Thanks.

Re: To Webmaster: Norton Internet Security's "Heartbleed Tool" Can't Find TBN?

Heardbleed works on a version of the software used to provide Secure HTTP (HTTPS) connections. TBN does not use HTTPS connections for general traffic, only Unsecured HTTP therefore it is not vulnerable to heartbleed.
The TBN store (https://store.tractorbynet.com) uses HTTPS and that comes back as "Clear" with the Norton tool.

Norton didn't send me that e-mail until 10:40 p.m. last night.:D At least their "tool" shows my banking and credit card sites to be clear.
