I just bought a TO35 on ebay.....runs great, no major issues. I lifted up an engine block with a boom on the 3pt hitch and it lowers when I step on the clutch!!! My Uncle's 9N didn't do that!! I thought these had 'live' hydraulics. Can I change the 3pt lift so that it operated indpendent of the clutch? Also, what do the two levers by the 3pt lift lever do?

Thanks!

A few TO-35's were built WITHOUT live power (2-stage clutch) When you push the clutch down halfway, do you feel a second stage? If so' don't push the clutch any further and you'll still have hydraulics. If you found one without the 2-stage clutch, you WON'T have live hydraulics. A fair amount of Ferguson/Massey Fergusons and Fords of that generation had the option of 2-stage clutch or NOT.

Am I understanding you right that there are a total of THREE levers? If there's only TWO, one is lift control and the other is draft control lever. Not sure what a 3rd lever would be. I have an owners manual (in new condition) for that tractor. If interested, PM me and I'll give you the details on how to make it yours. If you have ANY intentions of keeping ANY tractor, I highly recommend an owners manual, service manual, and parts manual.

I definitely don't have the two-stage clutch.....I wonder if there's a way to convert that over so the lift is live......

Just a guess on my part, but it would probably be cheaper in the long run to trade for a tractor with live power/hydraulics.

The 2-stage clutch came on so called "deluxe" models. You can tell the deluxe model because it has a "ground speed" option on the PTO as well as the regular engine speed. The 2-stage clutch was finicky to adjust anyway, if not adjusted perfect the PTO would keep turning no matter where the clutch was.
Even if you don't have the 2-stage clutch it should still operate like your uncle's 9N. Regardless of whether you have live hydraulics or not the implement shouln't immediately lower when you step on the clutch. If it does, the system is leaking down somewhere, like the lift cylinder or pump and will eventuallly need repair.
