Have seen a 6' finish mower for sale. Is this too big for my JD 790 (30HP) 4 wheel drive Thanks in advance for helpping !

A JD 790 should run a 6 foot finish mower just fine.

From what I have read a 790 has 27 hp. I could be wrong. No reason why it wouldn't turn a 6' finish mower unless your chopping 6' grass.

A 6' RFM is a perfect fit for a 790. So is a 5' rotary cutter if you ever need one of them.

As far as the HP ratings, the 1998 through 2001 or 2002 were rated at 30 Engine HP, 25 at the PTO. After that, it was 27 Engine HP, 24 at the PTO. The 790 has had three different engines installed during it's manufacturing life.

ADDED!!
I did ok with a 60" 450 lb Befco mower with no front ballast (my loader is off most of the mowing season). That 72" mower will add 100 lbs or so, so you might need front weights if you transport with the mower raised.

I run a 6 foot finnish mower behind a CK 30 with no issues. If I let the gerass go a couple of weeks I haved to run one gear slower to cut if but no horse power issues, only blades don't cut it fine enough when the grass is tall and think. My machine has enough weight but not sure how much yours weights. You might need some weight in the front if you do not have a loader.

6 ft works for most people with that size tractor. Our new First Choice in the 6 ft size are $1395. Orange in color. Ken Sweet

My big tractor was in the shop getting some work done on it and I needed to mow some grass bad. It would of got away from me if I waited until my big one got back. My B7800 and a 5 ft for 20a just wouldn't get it for the time I had. So I hooked up my woods RM990 to see what it would do, that B7800 had no trouble with it as far as HP. I got into some wet grass on the side of a hill and I throught I was at the Sat. night races with a dirt track. But the B7800 did a great job, everytime I try something with that little tractor it shocks me and keeps right on a going. No I didn't try to pick it up, didn't even hook up the top link. I'm going to sell the 5' and get me a 6 or 7' for it.
