I checked my trans oil the other day and it looks like it is too full. I thought I had it right last summer when I filled it. What is the correct way to check it? Do you screw the cap all the way down, or just sit it on the top and check it?
thanks, bw

It may not be the same on your Yanmar but my JD 750 (made by Yanmar) shop manual says to set the dip stick on threads without screwing in to check level.

If it has more oil in it than it did last year, I would start checking.... Oil can leak out.. but if it fills up I would bet there is something else in there displacing it.. like water that leaked past a shifter boot, etc.. or perhaps engine oil.. though I don't know if there is a common seal that will let the engine oil leak into the tranny system...

To check for water, loosen the drain plug if it is at the lowest pint.. the water would collect there, if it isn't emulsified, etc.
