New TBN member. My first post.
It used to be offshore fishing and cross-country motorcyle rides. Thankfully, I made it through those times and am now back to what I've loved since I was a kid visting my Uncle's farm... TRACTORS!!!
Recently took early retirement. Moved from Florida (my lifelong home) to Southwest Washington state (my idea of paradise). Bye-bye heat, humidity and mosquito control... hello rain, firewood and snow tires!!
Have 5 acres and several hundred yards of gravel road and driveway to maintain. The lot is hilly and the soil has a high clay content, so working the ground takes more muscle than it did in Florida's flat and sandy terrain.
Bought a BX-23 and a RTV900 in 2005. I've found them to be great for mowing, yard chores and pushing around the occasional bit of snow; but not enough grunt to do the tilling and land leveling that I have in mind.
Soooo.... just purchased a L4740HST w/FEL. Had the dealer install a top-and-tilt kit and also bought a grader blade, a landscape rake, a tiller and one of those "grader-style" box blades (similar to a Road Boss or GradeMaster). Delivery will be sometime this week. Kept the BX and RTV for mowing and "honey-do's". The new machine will be for the road work and dirt work.
TBN was a great resource for the research I did before this latest purchase. I'm sure I will use it frequently going forward, and hope to provide some feedback on my experiences as I learn how to use the 4740.
