Case 580D Backhoe, NH TC40D SS, JD 450BC dozer, Ford F700 dump
I want to first say thank you to all on this board who have been so helpful to me in my purchase / configuration over the past month and a half. After going through many configurations including a backhoe attach, looking at Deeres and Kubotas as well, I have placed my order for the TC40D.

I scrapped the backhoe attachment and went out and purchased a used Case 580D with an extendahoe. Quite a serious unit, and is sure to deliver many fun seat hours for her new owner. I have attached a picture (since I know I always love seeing the pictures of others! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) That is my 2-yr old daughter in the seat (and yes, no keys in the machine at the time and all hydraulic pressure out of system at time of picture).

I will be getting my TC40D with no bucket as I was able to pick up a bobcat 4n1 cheaper separately. I did have them plumb the machine with an electric over hydraulic front Fasse valve for the front end implements.

I have also decided that I wanted a grapple rake but found them to be too much $$. I did get a new Miller 210 MIG unit and tonight I am going to start work on constructing my own. Pictures of that effort should be entertaining and will follow in the Projects thread.

thanks again to all.
Larry

Larry - Congratulations!

Who in Upstate NY did you end up buying the tractor from?

The subject says "TC40C" - is that a "D" or is there a new model out there? I have been seriously thinking of picking up a TC40D, but haven't worked out the specifics.

Can you share the pricing you got on your new NH?

Congratulations, Larry! You really bit off a big chunk with both of your machines. Can you give us some details of your planned projects for the backhoe?

Larry,

Perhaps you could run through the reasons why you chose the TC40D over others. Maybe it will help me with my decision.

Was it the dealer? Was it the features? Was it the price? etc.

Sure,
I would be glad to. The decision was not easy at the end of the day. First, the easy part, Kubota got ruled out right away because of my interaction with the two local dealers. They clearly did not have a desire to work with me or do business. They were out.

Then it came down to the Deere (4610) and NH (TC40D). Each had some features that I liked and made it preferable to the other.
DEERE POSITIVES COMPARED TO NH:
The loader removal is better on the Deere than the NH. The NH wasn't bad, but not as quick or easy as the Deere.

The deere has load match (prevents stalling while picking up a load with the loader)

The deere has a feature which basically creates some drift such that when you take your foot off the hydrostat pedal the tractor does not stop abruptly (this is adjustable) and I felt led to smoother operation.

The FEL has 200 lbs more lift capacity.

NH POSITIVES COMPARED TO DEERE
The NH has much better visibility with the loader on given the sloped front and sloped loader arms.

The NH came standard with adjustable 3pt hitch arms

The NH came with a universal quick attach front bucket so that I can put on SSL attachments. This was an expensive option on the Deere.

I wanted to have a one touch electric over hydraulic valve on the joystick to using a grapple bucket / 4n1 bucket. NH dealers seem to do this and the Deere folks want to run the function off a lever from the rear remote. Not as elegant or functional.

The loader joystick on the NH is much nicer with dual range controls right on the stick

I can get the NH with Supersteer which increased manuverability as well as giving me Sensitrack (on demand FWD).

The NH came in about $2,000 cheaper.

Finally, my gut just told me to go with the NH.
Hoep this helps,
Larry

Short -term backhoe projects include: putting in some french drains from the location in which I intend to put my barn - leading down towards my intended pond location. Pulling out many small trees and stumps. Trenching some wet area on my property out to the adjacent river. And of course digging some deep holes just to prove that I can, and filling them back in again!
