Just picked up a 2003 F150 with 5700 miles on it for my birthday! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Its black has a linex bed spray in it. Now I need a tool box for the back. I like the looks of the diamond plate ones. Any one out there better then the other? Any recomendations on a brand? Not on truck but the tool box? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Take care

Hey Al, looks like a couple in there who can't wait to take that baby out for a spin! Nice rig!

The place I like the most around here is Add-On accessories on Williston Road. They have a great floor display and no problem taking you in the back to open boxes and compare side-by-side. Cheaper and a lot friendlier than the Yipes place, too!

Good luck! Pete

Al,

What difference will it make what it looks like. You're going to paint it NH BLUE anyway, right?? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like the diamond plate ones also, but I think if I had a sharp looking black truck, I'd try to find a black one. That would look cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Those diamond plate aluminum jobs do look nice but I'll never own another. After a few years, you can't get a tool out without getting black junk all over your hands.

Maybe there's a remedy for this, I don't know.

BTW, nice truck /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I picked up a diamond plate one and installed it on my tractor. The sides were flat black sheet metal, the top is diamond plate. I got mine from Sears and it is a Craftsman model. I've had it a year and it shows no signs of problems.

Yep today's my birthday!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif 45!!! Congrats on your birthday also. Every year we survive is another year of tractor seat time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks for the compliments guys. Yes the boys only want to ride in Dads /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif truck and once you get the little one in he won't get out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif No NH blue for this truck. Black's not my favourite color but when the price is right color isn't always that importent. Although maybe a nice blue New Holland sticker in the back window wouldn't look all that bad. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Wonder were I could get one of those? Not a bad birthday present from the wife would you say? 17 years next month and still wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. Besides that she might put me in time out and then I would really be in trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Have a great day and take care.

I don't have any problems with our aluminum diamond plate tool boxes. We have one that we got in 98' and is just fine. I bought our other one in 2002 but bought the black painted one. Won't rust and looks a lot nicer. I had a cheap junk steel one for a year and it just rusted out on the corners and lids. Never will own another cheap steel one. We bought the first one from Quality Farm and Fleet, the last two were from TSC. Don't know who makes them for sure but TSC throws their badge on it. Price is decent two. Home Depot sells Husky brand toolboxes like you want also which serve your need. I have not had any problems with any black coating coming off any aluminum toolbox or tools here (so far).

If you're interested in a tool box and a tonneau cover, check out Extang. I have the combination of both where the cover and frame hinge on the box and both the cover and frame go up like a hardtop. The cover and frame also come off the truck as a unit in less than a minute. Works really, really well.

We have 20 trucks at work that were equipped with the aluminum boxes. The gys and gals use them to put their mud boots and tools in. Sometimes their stuff comes out of there covered in black. Probably the worst purchase we ever made, no one will use them. We now buy extended cab trucks, everyone is much happier.
