2007 New Holland TC40A
I just purchased my first ever tractor package and am excited as all get out. I bought a NH TC40A. I was thinking about getting the toolbox, but they wanted $58.00 for that thing. Most people say the design is not good because it's vertical and hard to get to things on the bottom. I want to store the usual tools like a crescent wrench, pliers, screwdriver set, hitch balls, log chain, rags, etc. Do y'all know of any company out there that sells a decent tool box that will mount somewhere out of the way? The fenders are plastic, so I'm not sure they would support one. I'm thinking about using a US Military 50 cal. ammo can and mounting it just in front of the seat by bolting it to that seat brace. They're water tight and tough as nails. It would be out of the way, but it might not have quite enough room.

Any ideas?

Ducks, check out this link: TC-40D add on toolbox

I plan to make the bracket and mount the box like he did. Make sure you check out his other mods.

Awsome. This is what I'm talking about. I don't have a welder, so I'll probably bend it to fit in a vise. Thanks!

Ducks, let me make a suggestion before you go "whole hog" into this project. Get a toolbox and sit it between the ROPS and then sit in the seat. Turn around and look at a short implement like a boxblade or tiller. Make sure you can see with the toolbox in place before you finish the project.

I put a toolbox on my tractor similar to PineRidge and I'm going to replace it with something else much smaller. It's nice to have a big box, but it blocks my view of the rear of the tractor too much in my estimation. Something half the size or half the height would be ideal.

Good idea JinMan, I didn't think about that. I haven't made mine yet and I'll be sure to take a look and buy a shorter box.

Thanks for the advice! I actually did scope out a lower profile box that is only 20" wide and not 26" and it will hold plenty. I figure I could attach the ammo box to the front of the seat brace since it's out of the way and then I'll have 2 storage areas. Ammo box for log chain, clevis pins, hooks, etc. Tool box for tools, gloves, etc.

But, I'm not buying or mounting anything until I make darn sure it all fits!

I actually found what I guess is the previous tool box set-up for a TC40A tractor. Whereas the current tool box is a vertical set-up made of plastic with a lid that will hold a drink that attaches to the left lower fender, the old set-up consisted of a metal bracket that holds a larger horizontal style tool box, (still plastic), that mounts on the left fender, and a separate cup holder that holds 2 sizes of drinks, that mounts on the right fender. These are still available. I'm getting the tool box bracket only, (without the tool box), and will mount my own tool box. The parts guy said I can do that and that he has some customers that have done that. I'll also get the drink holder. For those of you that are interested, the kit part number which contains the tool box, tool box bracket, drink holder, and mounting hardware is 710990046. You can see what it looks like by going to Kleiber Tractor & Equipment. Click on Parts, then click on the online parts catalog. Enter tractor TC40A. Click on Operator's Platform/Cab. This kit is designed to fit the following NH tractors: TC35A, TC40A, TC45A, D35, D40, D45.

Well, I'm gonna crawfish on my take on this previous set-up. The controls are on the fenders where I assume the cup holder and tool box would go. Not having seen the older style TC40A, am I to assume the vertical tool box style was adopted because the controls are now on the fenders and they were located somewhere else before? I'm not going to purchase anything until I get the tractor next week, but figured someone has already nixed the previous tool box setup for this very reason. Can someone confirm that this previous setup won't work? Thanks.

Never mind my previous post. The tool box kit I mentioned will fit just fine on the "A" models such as mine, (TC40A), since it has the 12 x 12 SS transmission. However, it won't fit on hydrostatic transmission models because the fenders are clogged up with controls for the transmission, the PTO, and the 4wd engagement. So much to learn!

Ducks -- don't bother with the cup holder for the right fender -- they don't work AT ALL ... I'd give you mine but I want to keep it as a bracket to mount something else on. I went ahead and spent the bucks for the vertical one --- cost too much I know -- and you need to add a 3/8 piece of material under it to make up for the rubber deck pad it was designed to sit on - but I like where it is - it's never in the way.
