Re: Tooth Bar for 72\" Bucket - where to buy?

I arranged the purchase a toothbar from the JD dealer and was very pleased with the toothbar. I had it at my door two weeks after ordering. In fact, this dealer did not apply any charges to my credit card until AFTER I had received the merchandise.

Let me add a couple of caveats when ordering. Measure the inside of the bucket TWICE for the toothbar. That is between the sides of the bucket and the thickness of the cutting edge. Then pass along those measurements to the dealer. I made a slight mistake and had to get some shims made up and welded on. Not a big deal, just a pain!! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Make sure you have a good 1/2 drill and 3/4" drill bit.

Then have a good time digging up whatever your heart desires.

Another thought - sure you have plenty of ballast to keep your tractors rear wheels on the ground. I've lifted mine up a couple of times and the pucker factor sure comes on very, very fast.

Re: Tooth Bar for 72\" Bucket - where to buy?

John's picture looks like my toothbar, except I just have a 54" bucket, and instead of 3/4" bolts to hold it on, as Terry mentioned, mine are 5/8". I bought mine used on this forum and it was about 1/8" too long to go on. No problem to cut it in two and weld it back to shorten it a tiny bit.

Do you take the tooth bar off when using the FEL for plowing snow, assuming you use the FEL for this?

Re: Tooth Bar for 72" Bucket - where to buy?

Yes, Mike... two bolts hold it secure to your bucket cutting edge, you can remove it{as fast as you can turn a wrench...} maybe 1 1/2 minutes... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I've said it before, but with the toothbar... it's like the loader bucket is on steroids... absolute day and night difference for digging, even for minor raking, ripping small saplings up out of the ground, use like a welded bucket hook, removing brush, etc. etc. It makes the loader very very aggressive...

I would say a toothbar is to a bucket/loader as TNT is to a boxblade... and the steel will last a lifetime!

Terry,

There's probably a zillion ways to device a bucket hook... cheapest being using an existing hook $2-4, torching off the "eye" end and welding...

I've seen some "dedicated" ready-to-weld bucket hooks for $14-19. each... /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I think those are for the people that have more money than brains... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

And those teeth sticking out there let me pick up a couple of 34' utility poles and load them on a trailer last week without having to use my forklift forks or a chain.

Tooth Bar Multiple Uses?

Re: Tooth Bar for 72\" Bucket - where to buy?

John,

Thanks for the reply. Now I know why I couldn't find them. I was looking for the wrong thing. It didn't dawn on me to think of using a cleivis hook. Doh! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Now, let me see... mount the toolbox for stuff, get and weld some hooks on the FEL, .... the list keeps on growing!

Re: Tooth Bar Multiple Uses?

I use them for lots of reasons - some not necessarily smart. Mine are heavy duty and I have used them to pry out rocks, lift a small building, dig out cement and a foundation, use them like a rake for brush, mulch etc., carry wood or poles and for nearly and project that can utilize the "small forklift" ability they provide. I've lifted objects on only one tooth that resulted in lifting the back of the tractor.
They are also nice protection for the cutting edge. I've pryed, lifted, gouged and pushed my way into most things including fences by accident. (Doesn't take long to remove a fence with one!) If I can get a tooth under something and lift it, I have probably tried it.
Mine was a used Bobcat toothbar which appeared new. Paid $180 and cut out an inch to make fit in a 66" bucket.

That info should be enough for me to take to the dealer. I always check my TBN private messages so you can always contact me that way. I will call at the dealer soon and if they can't provide them then I will try to find an alternative source for you./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
