I am considering adding a toothbar to my NH 16LA loader and was just wondering....

Is damage to the loader a concern due to the extra forces applied by using the toothbar ?? I've got to think that the toothbar will allow a lot of extra "traction" and maybe overstress the loader parts. Am I worrying about nothing ??

Any commnets ??

I don't see the toothbar as adding stress to the loader arms, but rather, to lessen it - it's function is to break up packed dirt / etc and loosen it to make the lip of the bucket more effective. It essentially lessens the initial contact area so the while more local (at the tooth point) force is applied, the total load passing into the arms is the same.

I could see the possibility of increasing the load on the FEL by using the teeth to pull up saplings, rocks etc. but in reality I have done all of those things without the teeth. Your hydraulics will quit or you might even get light on your back tires before anythings get damaged. With reasonable use it's hard to screw up. In short I wouldn't give it a thought. As always, use judgement when using heavy equipment both for your safety and that of the machine but all in all it's nothing I'd sweat for a minute.

Actually, it can't by nature of the design of the hydraulics system, which will pressure-relive at a certain system PSI. Load farther out from the pivot point of the loader arms increases the rate of pressure buildup in the system, which is why you have to reduce your load capacity as you move away from the point of advertised carrying capability (the bucket pivot point). That farther away from that point you get, the less load that can be imparted on the bucket, and thus the loader arms, before the system pressure reaches maximum, and the pressure relief kicks in.

And I just read your entire post and saw that you basically said the same thing. :)

Steve
