Hello all,

I have a toothbar question. Do any of you toothbar owners out there know if the bars have a curve built into them by design? By curve, I mean a slight smile to the bar that the teeth are welded to. A toothbar vendor told me that they are curved by design for various fitting reasons etc and I would just like to verify this to help me understand. The reason that I am inquiring is because I was under the assumption that the toothbars could be taken off and put back on with relative ease. If the toothbar has a curve to it but my 4 foot bucket edge is straight (when compared to a straight edge), I would think that would cause some fitting problems to be common.

Thank you!

I'm with Bob. But in all practically there is a slight smile in bars with a thin or narrow backer strip from the weld shrinkage on the top only welds. Easy to flex when installing or use a 1/2 X 4 backer flat bar and you won't get any bow.

Hmmmm. So this 1/2X4 bar with a bow to it is not normal in your opinions then?
This thick puppy is not going to flex.

Thanks for letting me bounce this off of you.

LMAO

Sorry, As they welded the shanks onto the bar, I bet they just put them all in place on the bar, started left to right (or whatever) and welded it up.

I bet they did not tack, brace, take time, etc, just started running in some hot beads, all on one side of that bar of metal.

It will cause the metal to draw (warp) towards (or is it away) from the heat.

Anyway, how about a better answer from me.

From studying the attached picture, I believe poor welding practice was used and the heat effected parts are now bowed.

I do love the bunny though.

I thought the same about the welding when I saw the bend in the bar but was told that the bend is there for a reason. I was never given specifics on the reason other than "to help it fit". I was not willing to bend my flat bucket edge to match it for fit.

One turn to the helpful folks here and the mystery has been solved.

I just installed a toothbar on my 72" bucket and the bar I have made by W.R. Long was straight as an arrow.
