I have been reading about toothbars for the fel. I know little about them. Do I need to get one from my Kubota Dealer or after market. What is a fair price. Keep in mind I am cheap. I understand they are bolt on. If so, does the bucket need to be drilled. I also want to know the best place to have a hook put on the bucked, or should it be some other place on the loader?

Since you want a good one cheap, you probably want Markham. However, I like mine from H&H Sales . H&H prefers selling through your local dealer. Markham does direct sales.

Yep. I used a 1" hole saw. No problem.

I would recommend not less than 2 chain hooks, one on each side of the top of the FEL bucket. You should be able to find photos of well-installed chain hooks. Try searching.

A toothbar and chain hooks are likely to be the 2 things that give the most improvement in functionality per dollar spent.

Attached is a picture of my bucket.
I have 3 bucket hooks, 1 on each side and 1 in the middle.
The toothbar is a WR Long, cost with shipping was around $300.

I agree with what the other guys said. My toothbar came from Woods and I paid around $300 for it.

hambob, One thing to consider, when getting a tooth bar, is the edge of your bucket. If you get a bolt on edge on your bucket the spacing of the teeth becomes critical because the teeth will fit in-between the protruding bolts of the bolt on edge. On Markham's web page they say that their toobars are designed for buckets without the bolt on edge. Markham - "They will Not Fit with Bolt-On Cutting Edges, Unless you are willing to remove all the bolts in that cutting edge before installing our tooth bar."

I have a bolt on edge and my dealer had to give all the measurement of the bolts to FFC so the toothbar they built would not have to go over the bolts.

Hooks - One thing to consider here is that when you pull with with the hook it is best to have the load equal on the bucket so you do not twist the loader. My dealer would only install (free) one in the center for this reason. I can see where three would be good for holding things in the bucket. I just would not pull from an end hook.

I found that I could buy from my MF dealer at a competitive price and they installed it when prepping for delivery, but I'm not familiar with the Kubota lineup.
I will suggest 3/8 grab-hooks where-ever you decide to put them. With the 3/8 you can use a 1/4 chain or the 3/8. I have one on each side of the bucket at the top, about where it attaches to the FEL arms.
You'll really appreciate the toothbar for digging, clearing brush, etc.

Thanks for all the advice. I just called the dealer and he will install a toothbar for $325 before deliveryplus he will space three hooks along the top. His family has had farm equipment dealership for close to 70 years, and ought to know better than me where and how to attach. He can also do it easier. I may be cheap, but I am also lazy. Otherwise I would just tell the wife and kids what I want moved. Its easier to do it with my toys.

In the photo Vince posted you can see a grab hook in the center and slip hooks at the ends...

My choice was a slip hook in the center and grab hooks at the ends...

There have been times when I told myself I was glad my slip hook was in the center, probably because it was easier to take up the slack chain by pulling from the side before hooking into the grab hook.

Wonder what configuration of hooks is best? Maybe all are equally good. I am almost certain that I would not want all slip hooks though. At least one grab hook would be a necessity in my book.

Might not hurt to ask the dealer what kind of hooks he is welding on, just to be sure.

just wondering , would there be any advantage to all 3 hooks being GRAB HOOKS?

txdon, did you have to go through the dealer? You made my day in that Markham was going to make me remove my cutting edge. I didn't want to do that. Looks like FFC will let me keep it and have the toothbar. If you don't mind me asking, what did that toothbar cost and which did you get? Did you get the standard, heavy duty or extra heavy duty?
