Well you guys convinced me that I needed a toothbar so it's on order. Ya'll have done such a good job of helping me spend money and I appreciate it----the wife, not so much so /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. Anyway, I was just thinking, do you have to do any differently when it comes to removing the FEL?

"do you have to do any differently when it comes to removing the FEL?"

Nope, same procedure you use now.

With the toothbar on, it seems to dig a bit into the dirt. I park mine on a concrete surface or hard dirt surface and it works fine.

If you park the FEL on the lawn, it might chew it up a bit unless you put a 2x6 board under the teeth. Then you'll be fine.

I really like my toothbar. I take it off and on pretty often, too. Its no more difficult to remove and install than a 3 point attachment, in my opinion.

What a dirt digger, that toothbar! Here's what mine looked like when brand new.

My toothbar for my 410 loader looks like Theowegian's, but it's in a green bucket and has 2 bigger bolts on the sides like his. It's easy to take off and to put back on, with the 2 side bolts. I'll have to see how it is in the snow. I'm leaving it on to protect the bucket in float mode. I've an asphalt driveway and will have to be careful not to have the teeth point down at all during the scraping.

Cost $285.

Mine was $365 for a 60" bucket. I checked elsewhere but that was the best price I found.
Theo, what type of jobs do you prefer having the toothbar off?

Demote,

Just a heads up, but when you install the toothbar make sure you drill/saw the bolt holes so that the teeth are aligned with the bucket bottom, rather than at an angle. You probably are already aware of this.

There was a thread a while back where the poster did not consider this and ended up with the teeth on an angle which did not seem to work as well, so I though I might mention it just in case. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the 'headsup' on the angle. The tractor is at the dealers having a hydraulic leak around the sight glass fixed so they'll be putting the bar on while there. Hopefully they've put others on.

I like to take the toothbar off when Im trying to smooth and level out dirt or limestone screenings. I think it is called backdragging or something like that. Anyway, I tip the bucket slightly forward and move the tractor in reverse. I get a nice smooth surface that way. With a toothbar on during this, you would get a nice tooth pattern, which I dont want.
Actually, for most work, I do leave the toothbar on the bucket. Its especially nice to work tree roots out of the ground. I dont get as much dirt, if Im careful. It is really good for shrub removal.

So what will cost more to replace, your worn bucket lip, or your entire asphalt driveway? No matter how level you get your bucket, even the bottom edge of the teeth will do a number to your driveway.

You can clean the drive much better with the smooth bucket edge, and if you are that concerned with the bucket edge wear, you can always add a wear bar, either home made or purchased from a manufacturer in metal, plastic, or rubber.
