John Deere 4200 MFWD HST w/ JD 420 FEL w/ 61" loader bucket & toothbar & JD 37 BH w/ 12" bucket
I stopped at my local Deere dealer today and wasn't disappointed in my expectations of ineptitude there. I asked about a Top and Tilt for my 4200 and they had no idea what I meant. As the guy was looking through the catalog he asked what else it might be called. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I had to read it upside down and point it out to him. Of course, it was labeled "Top and Tilt" so you can see why he'd be confused. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

He's then able to tell me nothing about it except that he can order one in for $750 and, since I had hydraulics in place for a backhoe, that the kit in the catalog would be all I'd need. I then asked him about the control and got a blank stare. He never even considered I might want to USE the hydraulics.

He had no idea what controls were needed, where they were to be mounted or how. This is why I usually drive over to the next town for anything I have to get from Deere. I walked out of there incredibly frustrated with them (again).

I love my tractor but sure don't feel the same about my local dealer. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Is the $750 just for the cylinders and hoses?

Gary,

did you get a part number? Might be able to look it up on the web (JD Parts) to see what it includes.

I tried searching under 4200, but didn't see anything

Cylinders and hoses were all that were shown in the tiny photo in the catalog. That's why I asked about the controller. Of course, they had no clue so took my number so they could call me back after they found out from Deere.

I didn't get the part number. It wasn't listed in the 4200 accessories catalog but was in the 4210 accessories catalog. Since the three point parts all interchange between the two models the Top and Tilt should work with either. My guess is that the Top and Tilt for the CUT's came out after the demise of the 4000 series and Deere isn't listing backward compatibility on new accessories.

Gary,

I looked under 4210 & found it

go to JD Parts You'll have to register if you haven't already. click on JD parts catalog. THen do a model # search for 4210. It is in the sectional index under hydraulics.

What's included:
2 cylinders
hoses
assorted brackets fittings & Screws.

what's not included:
control valves.

Seems a little pricey at $750, but sure saves you alot of engineering or "head scratching" time.

I'll try and attach a picture

$750 seems like a lot for a top and tilt kit until you try to buy just the cylinders from them and find out they list them at more than $600 and $800 each!!

Deere controls the kit from the standard dual selective control valve used for the loader. They have a $1000 electric diverter valve and hydraulic line kit that routs the oil to 2 quick disconnects at the rear of the tractor. If you don't have a loader you could just run hoses from the front connectors back to the cylinders, or have some hard lines made up. If you're handy with hydraulic plumbing you might also hook up your own 12VDC solenoid valve (like Northern Tool's) for about $100 each.

OK gary,

Here's the plan,

You buy the T&T kit from the dealer you like. Take it and the tractor over to your hydraulic buddy & have hime rig up the control system for you. I'd be you can plumb a couple of valves off the hydraulics for your backhoe for $200-$300

I sure don't like those numbers and especially not if I go with the top line which would allow me to switch back and forth between contolling this and controlling the loader bucket I'm thinking I ought to be able to get the whole thing done with parts and labor including quick connects to the BH hydraulics and controls though not necessarily the electric diverter valve kit for under $450. My hydraulics guy is supposed to have some of the list together for me Friday. If I go ahead with this project I'll be sure to post whatever information I acquire along the way. Thanks for all of your input. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

When registering on the JD parts site I got a message that said my info was being redirected to a nonsecure site. Did that happen to you? Do you know what that is all about?
