I need some help please, I recently purchased a L3010dt have about 22 hrs onit , my question is the top link, it has 3 postions to which it can be attached, the dlr told me just to leave it in the top hole. I looked in the manual and they have different locations to which you attach the link depending on the implement or attachment, does it make a diff where you attach and why, please explain, and what holes do you use for what attachments

thanks

KJN,

I ain't no expert, but my understanding is that the heavier the attachment, or the tougher the pulling, the lower the top link attachment point. At a guess, it has to do with the physics of the tractor being pulled over backwards.

On many tractors the tractor end of the top link can determine how the implement lifts from the ground. On implements like box blades or rear blades you may want a level lift, whereas you may want a rotary cutter to lift the tailwheel higher than the front for clearance through ditches, etc. At least on my tractor, the lower the top link is attached to the tractor the higher the rear of the implement lifts in relation to the front of the implement. Most of the pulling force is from the lift arms, with the top link controlling the attitude of the implement and, on my system, providing input for the draft control system.

I read my manual and it tells me which hole for which implement. Changing the hole will change the stresses on the other linkages. Also, moving to the wrong hole can change the lift angles so some implements can bump into the tractor when raise and lowered. I think a little cautious experimentation wouldn't hurt anything.

My post to you last week did not go through. Yes you & I both have identical tractors & purchased at almost the same time. We probably live about 100 hundred miles from each other. I work at a community college T. H. Harris Opelousas. I love My Tractor but had bad luck today. Lost all coolant, tractor got hot. Will pull radiator tomorrow. Water leak coming from underneath it. Doing work myself. Don't know it warranty will cover. Don't see anythin that might have went through rad. If it is on me I pay. If factory defect I will ask them to pay. My email is mechanic@centurytel.net. Email me when you can. James
