On friday an EF3 tornado was on the ground for 40 miles and went through our county. The twister hit the southern part of Robinson Il. damaging some homes and completely demolishing several. Going east it took down the extension building of Lincoln Trail College and destroyed several businesses The twister completely destroyed the local airport and continued east demolishing several large farms and damaged several homes in Palestine Il. The tornado continued east on the ground, crossed the Wabash river into In. and destroyed the southern part of Sulivan. In. 3 people were killed just west of Robison and at least 8 people injured and in Sulivan In. 3 people were killed and 33 injured.
Il. state 1 is completely blocked off and all telephone and internet was down. Phone service and internet was brought back up today (Monday) but some highways are still closed. Highway crews are working to open the closed roads. Most of the telephone and power poles are laying on the roads.
The places the tornado hit looks like a war zone, the 40 mile 1/3 mile wide track of the tornado looks like a giant smashed his way and nothing stands in the path. There are tractor trailers stacked on top of one another, silos gone, tractors and other large equipment tossed like paper. Pieces of airplanes are strewn all around. Rescue is still searching houses and work crews are still trying to get the highways open. It was a rough weekend.
