Mother in-law has a Toro 621R snowblower. It has worked great for several years. Last winter it started acting like it was running out of fuel. It would start OK and after about a minute, would start to slow down. Pull the choke out and it would speed up for a couple minutes then die. Wait a minute or two and it would start again, then repeat the issue above.

Tried everything like fresh gas, check choke, fuel lines, filter, air filter, etc. Eventually bought a new carb for $15 and that did the exact same thing.

Sometime last year, the gas cap guts came out from under the cap. Something to do with the venting. I found it that way after several people used it. Couldn't figure out how to put the guts back under the cap. It looked like something was missing. Hmmm....

Pulled fuel tank out, pulled fuel line off bottom of tank, and only a dribble of fuel came out. Turns out there's a metal rivet holding the guts to the bottom of the cap. The rivet had fallen out at some point and dropped into the tank. It made an almost perfect seal at the outlet. Almost like a needle and seat, but upside down.

Removed it, reassembled everything, ZOOM! Off it went and ran like a top. New cap is on order for $15. Now I have a spare carb. 🙃

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

What are you talking about??

The thing has run flawlessly until a piece of the two piece fuel cap fell into the tank and blocked flow. It runs flawlessly again.
