Hi,

This is my first post here so bear with me.
i have a Toro rear engine rider lawn mower w/ a 8hp B&S engine that smokes a lot and goes through a lot of oil. What could be wrong with the engine to cause this. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks in advance.

-Rings gone? poor compression, if you take the head off the piston may be loose in the bore if this is the case.
-If you take the oil filler cap off is there any pressure when you put your hand over the top (engine running)? Blowby bad rings ect, builds up pressure in the crankcase and forces oil out the breather into the engine intake.
-Is there any oil in the bottom of the carb if you take the air filter off? This would indicate oil being forced out the breather tube.
-Is there an oil leak ontop of the exhaust? May just be a normal oil leak landing ontop of the exhaust causing smoke.
Hope this helps

Well i'm not exactly sure whats wrong with it but I cleadned the air filter, and it didnt seem to smoke at all yesterday. It was in the 70's though not as warm as it was the other day when it was smoking.

Well the engine gave out on it, so my dad and I replaced with a slightly used 12hp engine. All the problems solved but one new one the clutch doesnt work. any ideas on how to fix it?

What kinda clutch is it, electric or mechanical.
If its mechanical look for loose linkages, belts too loose, disconnected stuff ect.
If its electrical, check connections, the battery is fully charged, alternator is working. If all of tose are ok bummer man, electric clutches cost loads.
If I remeber Toro RER use manual though.
