<font color="red"> If you're just using it for mowing I'll second the ZTR opinion.

<font color="blue"> Unless your yard is basically like golf course smooth, you really don't gain anything with a ZTR mower. If the yard is bumpy, pitted etc. your better off with a rider.
<font color="black">
There is fact that if you respect your body, you'll probably never run the ZTR any faster than a tractor. But I'll still maintain the number of obstacles is the deciding factor for a ZTR [ZT around obstacles means much less time on those areas] and pull behind implements the deciding factor for a garden tractor. Of course, if you don't have many obstacles and no implements, the lawn tractors are economical.

BTW I recently tried mowing at 9+mph with a ZTR over some rough areas....my body may not agree, but it sure was fun! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Another alternative if you forego the ztr route - if you're pricing a JD in the LX280 class - get a price on a GT model (probably a 235). When I was looking at these there was very little $$$ between the big LX and the same hp GT's. The GT series and the LX have very similar control/feature layouts yet the GTs are slighly heavier built with bigger tires and if I recall correctly a one-model-heavier duty transaxle. Nice as they are, I couldn't really see the point of the LX's at the close pricing I was seeing.

Rexman,

Garrett,
Since you are planning on adding a tiller and snowblower/plow in the future, I'd recommend the Toro or New Holland depending on which color you like as they are essentially the same machine. I'd pass on the Deere LX and go for the GT235 for it's stronger frame and attachments. If you do consider the Deere, make sure it is a 2005 as the Kawasaki engine of the 2004 models had carb problems.

LOL. I'll bet it was. Any cutting in around my place is done by the wife and/or kids with the self-propelled push mower and weed-eater, and the only place that really needs it is around the house, front porch and straight line fence area which is not a whole lot.

garrett i have the 44 inch two stage snow blower which moves the snow about 30 ft from the driveway.works really good.i also have the 48 inch dozer blade which i have been using to move dirt and level the yard out.i have been working this machine and it keeps going.the 419xt has the kawasaki engine in it.i dont have the tiller so i cant tell you anything about that.
