I am putting a YM1700 back together. Does anyone have the Specs for bolt torque on it?

Does anyone else have any numbers. I had 130# on the head bolts. I want to be sure.

From the I & T Shop Manual for YM195, engine 2T84A. (US version YM1700). I recommend the I & T Shop Manual for anyone if it covers your model.

Head bolt with oiled threads, 127-134 ft lbs.
(my own advice is let it sit overnight then re-torque).

Rocker support nuts 48 ft lbs.

Intake and exhaust both .006" at TDC, cold.

(There is an Injection mark on the front pulley an inch or so ahead of the TDC mark. #1 cylinder is at rear (flywheel end of the engine). Firing order #1 then 180 crank degrees later, #2.)

Decompression lever: in decompresson position, at TDC on that cylinder's compression stroke, just snug then one turn. (about .031 open)

Thanks, I really do appreciate the help. Good, complete info to work with. I have that manual, but must have missed the specs.

My YM 1700 has the 2TR17-A engine in it. Are you sure you have the right engine number?

Reed, after reading Dick's question I think the specs I quoted are relevant for YM1700 but I don't have the information to be certain.

Dick, thanks for the heads-up. That sent me into researching the manuals I have here.

I verified that the I & T book says YM195/engine 2T84A.

The Parts Catalog issued by Yanmar-USA for YM195/YM240 also says YM195/engine 2T84A. So that is what they call the smaller USA engine. This all seems strange, because the next larger size tractor YM240 (sold by Yanmar USA) and YM2000 (Japan) both share one engine, model 2TR20A-X.

Back in the I & T book, they list identical procedures, torque, etc for YM195 and YM240 so the difference between those engines seems to be only the displacement, and the YM240's water pump.

So to me it is not certain that Reed's YM 1700/2TR17-A engine is identical to the US YM195/2T84A engine but I think it is.

I looked in another source here, a YM195/YM240 USA Flat Rate Manual. It shows identical labor hours for YM195 or YM240 on all listed tasks, so a 2T84A engine must be pretty similar to a 2TR20A-X.

Thanks, everyone. It fired off first spin. Pops like a pop corn popper. I spun it until the oil light went off a couple times and then let her go and away it went. If he will break it in slow and keep the radiator clean it should go the 5000 more hours it should have went the first time.
