New to forum, maybe this is a general brush hog question as well.

We use two 4500k with the tough cut decks to mow large hillsides. Anybody experience alot (and i mean alot) of missed grass while brush hogging with the tough cut deck. I know it's not a finish mower but often we are having to cut some spots twice. It also have the dual swivel front wheels, what are your thoughts on raising the deck all the way up would it catch more of the grass? (Some of the grass is 3-4ft high already)

Also I have tried the meg-mo system on the tough cut deck, works WONDERFUL on short grass and makes your tough cut deck look like a finish mower but in the taller grass it doesn't seem to improve the cut?

Located in Northern WV!
Any suggestions will help! :)

Thanks!

I also have the tough cut with the front wheels. In no way is this a finish mower. I do notice that it misses some grass and I'm accounting that to the front wheels pushing the grass down. The tough cut blade do not really have any "lift" so once the grass is put down it doesn't bring it up. The tough cut really shines in brush where the brush is stiff and wants to stand up. If I'm just cutting high grass (2+ ft), I'll cut it with the tough cut then the next day I'll come back with the finish mower set at max height.

Btw I'm in the Clarksburg/Bridgeport area.

Awesome,
Just bought some land on corbin branch, located in fairmont now.

That's why I attempted to use the meg-mo system thinking the slight lift and the claimed extra strength would help on those dry days where it seems to miss. I can't take the front wheels off because the slopes we are cutting I depend on those; I think if i would take them off like you said it would do slightly better but oh well; like you said it's not a finish mower! The meg-mo does turn my tough cut into a beautiful finish mower for short grass though.. I do love the tractor, no real complaints..

I saw a ventrac at sunset with a homemade toolbox attachment for the rear.. wouldn't happen to be yours would it? In the process of fabbing up some storage for the rear or upper ROPS.

It might have been mine. It was at sunset a couple weeks ago getting some warranty work done to it. IMG_8784.JPGIMG_8575.JPG

Sunset is going to make me a push bar to put on top of the tough cut to help with tall woody brush.

I found that constant adjustments of higher or lower make for a more even cut. So, depending on whether uphill, downhill, bumpy terrain, or sideslope I adjust the height for the best cut. I also have the front castering wheels but I have never adjusted them higher or lower.

I don't have a rear toolbox. I have a aluminum cargo carrier in the rear receiver hitch and if I encounter branches too large to mow over I throw them on the carrier and get them out of the area.
