Tow Along Generators

Work bought 4 tow along generators to power the signals when we have power interuptions or if power lines come down etc, i know they are made in china so they are fairly flimsy in the construction. today i had to check on some wiring internally to find they have Yanmar 3TNV82A in them with a UK made AC alternator. pity the rest of it wont last as long as the motor should going on some of our tractors that are 30+ years young and still going strong.

All those electrical componets and wirering that we find in things from Harbor Freight.

Should ahve said "assembled" in china.

I have bought & sold a few diesel gen sets.

Lately I have run into generators that are badged as Yanmar, but they are obviously made in China, with fake Yanmar engines !
You can see them on Craigs list.

You gotta watch what you are buying now days.

There is a lot of chinese smoke & mirrors for sale :confused2:

I think 'Small Yanmar Diesel' now just means its parts are interchangeable with Yanmar, if it's made in China. I haven't read of Yanmar manufacturing there, but the example of Perkins is pretty recent.

Perkins Diesel wanted to enter the China market so they built some co-owned assembly plants there. Then after a little while Perkins was thrown out and the China Perkins Diesels continued to be manufactured. China essentially said 'so sue me'. Good luck with that in the courts of China. Same thing happened to Chrysler's Jeep. First a co-manufacturing plant, then a China-owned replica plant that built the same thing without paying royalties to Chrysler. China's patent law is totally different than we are familiar with. Essentially once a design appears inside China, its theirs to use as they wish.

There is no Yanmar plant in china that makes generators.
The chinese copy a yanmar generator, and put phony Yanmar tags on them.

The castings were rough, and everything else screamed chinese at ya.
I saw one with my own eyes, just cruise Craigs list, and drive to go see one.

There ought to be laws to stop this phony practice

Has anyone tried a PTO driven generator?, I have seen them for sale but normally too large for a tractor my size (YMG1800D) but I am sure they make smaller PTO driven units, it would be nice to have one at our house in the country when the power goes out, now I just have a 6500 watt to power emergency items but I would think a 20hp diesel would turn a 5k?

yeah i also thought this Ernie but it looks to be well made. the cast is good and all its accessories have well made brackets and the like so maybe not? i will have a much closer look at them tomorrow and see what it can find,BTW even the grey paint job on them is flawless,i will take some pics and post them.
