I am looking at new extended cab 4x4 PU's and was wondering if anyone is using the new Nissan Titan with the 5.6 L for towing. I will be towing about 5500 lb, but am looking at a rating of 7000 so as to not tempt fate. How does the Titian stack up to the domestics like the Ford 5.4 and the Chevy 5.3. Sorry about you Dodge guys, but i had some bad experiences in the past with them and am a little gun-shy about them now.

the titan is soposed to be quit nice to tow with, and wit an 8900 lbss tow rating you should be fine. plus they are cheap compared to the americans. had a buddy just tell me that i saw a loaded extended cab titan for 27k on the road.

One of my motorcycle magazines jus tested one towing a 24' trailer and their fuel economy over a 1800 mile trip was 7 miles per gallon If your serious about the Nissan that might bear looking into.

Remember, no matter what truck you go with, you will de-rate the towing in a truck you describe. A 2wd will have a better tow rating than a 4x4. A standard cab will have a better rating than a x-cab or crew-cab.

The best tow rig, capacity wise, will usually be a 2wd standard cab with standard bed. The worst capacity is typically a 4x4 crewcab longbed. This is true for all trucks in a class, whether it be a 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, 1-ton ect.

The Titan advertises a pretty heavy tow rating, but does not advertise which configuration that rating is for.

I would also be concerned about comparing apples to apples... If the Titan has a 5.6l, you might look to comparable sized engines in the other brands.

The Titan has two cab configurations, King cab and Crew cab...both have ample rear seating. The King cab doors rotate 180 degrees to fold flat against the body.

If you opt for the Big Tow package the towing capacities are 9500 lbs. for the King cab and 9400 lbs. for the Crew cab.

I looked at the nissan since I have had very good luck with them in the past.
Two issues for me. I hate the flimsy feel of the doors on the crew cab. Also what happens if someone hits you in the side of the cab? This seems like a weak point.
Also this is the first V8 for nissan. I would not like to ring it out for them.

That same 27K would almost get you a dodge one ton SRW or 3/4 ton with a quad cab and a turbo diesel (~30K). Sure thats 4x2, but you will be able to tow anything and get 17-20 mpg empty at 75+ mph, and still a respectable 12-15 mpg will towing.
Compare the ratings. The dodge diesel blows away the nissan in all catagories of performance. Also you will get more miles out of the diesel engine. So what is the cost per mile for running the diesel, even if the up front cost is slightly higher?

The bad expereince with dodge has been a gas burner or a cummings diesel?
The reputation of the cummings is top notch.

I agree with Fred. If you're going to buy a tow vehicle then buy a tow vehicle. That 7mpg # is very real and is probably what you will get towing any kind of a load. Yea it can do it but at a healthy price. Fred is right on with the mileage and probably has it a little low.

Just one thing though Fred. From 1994 to present the longest lasting engine out there is the ford powerstroke. Yep I was surprised at that myself.

I wouldn't really want to tow with anything less than a 'full size' pickup. A full size truck and a 16' trailer is a good match for small to medium tractors.. 0-30 hp-ish, not counting a fel.

I haul a ford NAA and 5' mower, and have hauled my ex-NH 1920 and same 5' kk rotary mower on a 16' trailer. The back 10" of the tail wheel hangs off the back, and I flag it for safety. Weight distribution is good.
