Tractor
new holland 3415
hi,need thoughts & opinions on towing a john deere 1010 tractor with the rear wheels off the ground.i picked up a truck last weekend like this using hay forks under the rear, raising the bed & chaining the 2 together.pulled it about 2 miles with no problems.my concern is with the weight of the 1010 (@ 4000 lbs).i plan on pulling it with the 2 front tires down since 1 rear won't hold air.i'll tie the steering where it won't move.any ideas on how much weight i'll be dealing with? i'm using a new holland 3415 2wd to tow with.thanks in advance for any help you can offer.revg62.

Give it a try. Take it slow. Worst thing that will happen is you will not be able to lift it and simply will have to get the other tractor running and the tire fixed.

I once towed a Cub Low Boy a half mile backwards with my Jinma 254 using the FEL to lift the front end of the Cub off the ground due to a broken spindle. Only thing I hurt was my neck!:p

I would guess in the 2,000-2,500 lb range. A lot of weight is in the tractor engine itself, but the rear axle housing, tires & 3-pt are pretty heavy, too.

It would help if you could add a reasonably heavy implement to the rear of your NH as a counterweight. That might get your rear tires better traction and keep the rear end down.

had the 1010 home before 8 am today.i used the hay forks on the 3 point to lift the rear wheels off the ground & ran a chain around it to make sure it didn't slide off.pulled it @ 2 miles low & slow.thanks for the responses! revg62.
