Gentlemen,

Have never moved/towed my Kubota M5400S [two wheel drive] except for the day it was delivered in Dec 96. Well, I am helping a friend with some grading and other and I wanted to insure we have all the right spec's in moving it.

I also have the front-end loader with the larger bucket on it as well. I wanted to know the ideal size trailer/spec's for moving the tractor, and how many chains and where best to secure her in? The terrain is pretty flat with gentle slopes at best. The drive is about 40-45 miles one way.

Finally, since we are moving both my disk and box-blade, we are using two diff trailers..again, any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thank you very much,
tstex

Well Im sure that the 5800 is around the same as my 5040,I use a 24ft flatbed gooseneck(14k) but im guessing your going to be using a bumper pull? What trailers do you have to use? I would load everything on my trailer at once, what ever attachment im going to be using first would already be on tractor and set the other up front of trailer. I usually have one strap on loader, one on front of tractor, one on back of tractor, and one on attachment I have on tractor,of course have the extra attachment up front of trailer with atleast one strap. Were you located in Texas?

Thx ForemanETX

Located in NE Colorado County.

The M5400S is 4000lbs, frt-end-loader with large bucket around 1000lbs and box blade around 900lbs...that puts me at 6000lbs and would safely max-out a dual 3500lb axle trailer...attaching the box blade is a good idea and counters the weight of the frt-end-loader.

Thank you for our suggestions,
tstex

Kinda sounds like you gonna have to have two trailers, load one with disc and boxblade, then pull the tractor with other. I think you would be close to the max on trailer with everything on it but think your going to run out of room first on trailer, cause your gonna have to get tractor set on trailer were weight is over axles. Also depends on what your pulling it with, how important you get weight on trailer right cause the trailer could get hard to handle, then you dont wonna get to much on truck or it becomes hard to handle.

Thanks Foreman...I am going to make 2 runs...the tractor and frt-end loader is 2.5 tons alone - that's a lot of metal for a dual axle trailer...we'll drive slow.

If your going to pull two trailers anyway I would't put any attachments on the tractor. You can simply balance the weight of the tractor on the trailer. You will typically want to pull the tractor forward until you decrees the distance from the top of your rear tire and fender on the tow vehicle about 2" to 3" to set the proper tongue weight on the trailer. Any more or less and you'll be yawing ( or fish tailing ) the whole way.
