I want to get a trailer for my 4wd TC-30 hydro with 7308 fel and R-4s filled with calcium. The only weight I can find in my owner's manual is for a 2wd 9x3. Anybody know what this thing might weigh? Would a 3500 lb single axle trailer do it?

Welcome to TBN:D

I don't know the exact weight, but can assure you that a single axle 3500lb trailer will NOT be enough!

You will most likely at a minimum need a 16" duel axle (with electric brakes!) trailer for your rig.

I highly doubt a 3500 single axle trailer would be enough.

Here are the approx numbers for a TC33D hydro. I'd imagine a TC30 would be heavier since it's a bigger tractor and uses metal versus fiberglass for many parts.

Tractor - 2,500 lbs
FEL - 300 lbs
Loaded Tires - 600 lbs total (depends on tire type)

Total = 3,400 lbs

I'd say that with the loader and loaded tires, you'll be pushing 4000 lb. The 16' tandem axle trailer with brakes is a minimum for that tractor. If you want to haul it and some 3PH implements, you'll need a 18' or 20' trailer and maybe need to go up to a 10000 lb gross wt trailer. Remember, you have to add in the weight of the trailer itself when calculating gross wt on the axles. I think you can get by with a 7000 gross wt trailer, but you'll have to be careful about your brakes and the towing vehicle's maximum tongue weight.

Yeah single axle is not to even be considered but even with two 3500# axles, it's so easy to go over with an average CUT and implements.

There have been several threads just recently with guys asking if they are within safe operating specs with 7K car haulers, and it's always right at the borderline, either a little over or barely under.
It's a constant worry, with the load a half inch one way or another, one of the axles is overloaded.

10 K trailer is the way to go, harder to find a deal on one but worth the effort of getting one, will always be worth decent money for resale as long as it's rolling.

Ditto on what the rest have said. Plus make sure that you use grade 70 chain in good condition. In a lot of states they will require a breakaway system as well.

One flat tire on a heavily loaded single axle trailer traveling at 55 mph could turn quickly into a highway disaster. Tandem axles will give you a far better safety cushion when that unexpected tire failure occurs.

I have an F250 w/7.2 liter diesel. I've found a couple of dual axel 5000 gvw. Larger ones seem harder to come by around here for what I'm ready to pay.

If the total weight of your tractor and implements that you wish to carry are around 4,000 lbs., I would get a 7k rated tandem axle trailer with brakes. That choice also depends on the vehicle towing it. If your tow vehicles towing capacity is in the 7500 lb. range for example, it is pointless to get a heavier rated trailer ie. 10k trailer. However, if your tow vehicle is capable of towing 10k loads, then the larger rated trailer might be an option to consider. And as others have stated, an 18 footer would also be a good choice as the extra 2 feet makes a big difference. Jim
