My tractor quit running in the field and I need to tow it back to the shop. How do I get it to free wheel so it is easier for the towing tractor? Or will it free wheel if in neutral? I don't want to have my buddy show up with his tractor and we are unable to pull it because the hydrostatic is engaged. About a foot of snow and a couple of hills to pull it through so I need to make it as easy as possible to pull.

I would think just putting in "neutral" should do it.I would disengage the 4wd also.

I don't think the NH TC33D lets you disengage 4WD. My thinking about the hydro is like my zero turn and other lawn tractors. They all had levers/rods to pull to disengage the hydro so the wheels would free wheel..?

It is, but it has a "hi-lo" transmission between the hydrostat and thew rear wheels, so if you put the "hi-lo" transmission in neutral you should be fine. Yours should also let you disengage 4wd. The lever is shown in this video at 4:46 (outside, range selector is on the inside):

The manual for my TC40DA says just put the range levers in neutral and do not exceed 12 mph.

Randy-
That's what I needed to know. LOL on the 12 mph though. My buddy's tractor will be lucky to pull it up the hill through the snow. Might wait till next Monday to ask him to try to pull me out. We are supposed to get a day of temperatures above freezing this coming Sunday.
Thanks

I can confirm this, if I put the tractor in neutral, on a hill it will roll when I let off the brakes. And yes you can disengage the 4WD, it's the left most lever, pull it to the rear to disengage. I would do this on paved surfaces to save front driveline and tire wear.
