Yeah, besides being my only real choice for towing 20 to 25k, diesels can be fun too. That "old" 12v Dodge I had was as much of a toy for me as it was for work. This 6.0 Ford runs fine, but it doesn't run anything like I had that Dodge running. There again, I haven't spent but about $400 on upgrades on the Ford and on the Dodge....well, we won't talk about how much I spent on mods for it. :D I used to like to pick on those V8 Mustangs with it. I mean, c'mon, how many people in a 'hot rod' Mustang even remotely thinks a clanging, rattling 6 cylinder diesel Dodge could even come anywhere near keeping up with them? It was almost worth it (the expense for all the mods) to see the expressions on their faces when a big huge 4X4 dually Dodge 6 cylinder just outran them! :D Having 4 tires in the back helped it a lot in launching off the line. I never ran propane or nitrous, but I did end up with twins under the hood before I got rid of it. Although very expensive, it made a HUGE difference.

No war even considered with your pickup. I'm just pleasantly surprised and pleased with the performance of mine. Before I do any other mods to it I'm told by my tech that I need to have him install ARP head studs. I'll defer to his expertise on that matter. But, hey, he does owe me a bit of favor. I might go ahead and get those studs installed anyway so I'll be ready for any future mods. I never plan on having my 6.0 4X4 crew cab DRW running in the mid 12 second range like this guy 2004 Ford F350 Dually crew cab 4X4 1/4 mile trap speeds 0-60 - DragTimes.com , but adding a cold air intake and larger exhaust to what I currently have (with the head studs added of course) apparently will put my big heavy truck into the mid 13 second range based on dozens of guys running that exact same setup. I can't find any times for guys running crew cab 4X4 3500 Duramax runs, but I have found several Duramax 2500 runs. It looks like the 6.6 Duramax in a 2500 pickup running Edge Hot Juice/Attitude and everything else stock (similar performance mods as I currently have to my 6.0) run about the same times as me; around 14.2 quarter mile times 2001 Chevrolet CK2500 Truck LS 1/4 mile Drag Racing timeslip specs 0-60 - DragTimes.com . I'm sure that with your intake and exhaust you'd be running faster times. What I feel is best for me is those guys with the 6.0 like mine who have been flogging those trucks with that setup for years without any problems with the stock transmission or any engine failures. That's good enough for me. Mid 13 second runs are pretty darn good for 8000 pound pickups!

glad to here your 04 hasnt given you any probs.. they were know for probs.. how many more settings do you have on the quad chip??

The problems were only with the early 04's and the first 03's. They had the problems sorted out after the first 6 months. I had a 7.3 upto November of this year when a deer took it out. It was a great truck also but did not come close to the 6.0 in my eyes.

As for the chips it has 0gain, 40gain, 80gain, and 120gain. I leave it in 120 gain unless I am towing over 7,000# then I use 80gain. The 6.0 Ford has a egt built in that defuels automatically at 890 deg or something like that so it makes modifying them pretty safe compared to other motors where you must monitor egt.

I took my 2004 F-250 4x4 6.0 PSD to the track a few times but it was hot as he!!. Late August. My truck is a short bed extended cab and weighs 7,500# with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel. Anyway I had to use 4 high for the first 1/8 mile then shift out. It ran 14.1 at 98mph. Like you said its fun to get out there and line up against a guy in a 68 Camero that he has $ 45,000 in and blow his doors off.

I saw a 2500 Cummins regular cab long bed run 11.16 at 131.7 mph one time. It was the guys daily driver and had a ladder rack on it. Pretty cool. He had 5" exhaust, reworked injector pump, different injectors, intake and air cleaner, and 2 chips stacked, larger single turbo, and street tires and different rims.

My neighbor has a 2500 Cummins pulling truck that pulls 80" of boost.

Cool! The programmers for my SCT told me to stay away from the top two tunes I got from them until I get ARP head studs installed. The second to top tune, called 'hybrid race', would put my engine at 475hp and 860 torque. The top 'ultra comp race' shows even higher numbers. Those numbers are pretty common numbers quoted for SCT tunes. I can see where I'd want to stay away from using those without stronger head studs.

Ain't these diesels cool?! :D
