Hey all!!

with my Woods rake, the arms on the TPH are set very wide, so wide in fact, that the tire chains have been known to hook on the lower part of the vertical arm (no pics handy, if you can belive that!).. What I was thinking, flip the pins from the outside to the inside of the frame, which should allow the TPH arms to be narrower.. Is there any particular reason why some implements are set with the pins on the 'inside', vs. 'outside' of the frame? My woods blower has them on teh inside, for example.

I find it is easier to get them on & off if they are on the outside.

Are your tires "dished out" - ie on the widest setting? That can make a big difference regarding clearance...

The wider the pins are, the better they are at preventing lateral movement (i.e "jackknifing".) With that limitation in mind, you could have the pins facing inward, but mounted so that they are the correct spacing for the Category 3PH you have (for example, Cat I is 26 inches.)

Tires are set at their widest setting.. I think I may just try it, for kicks... Thanks!

On the pin where your 3PH lift arm connects to the tractor, are there spacers?
I have a couple implements that have the same issue (rub on tires). I just move the spacers to the outside which corrects the issue.

Should work fine. Pins pointed outward are a bit easier to get the implement on & off, but otherwise if you have clearence the pins inmward should be fine. Perhaps this is a cat 2 implement with cat 1 pins on it? Are the bolt parts of the pins rather thick to fill a big hole in the frame?

Thanks all,

I swapped the pins over, seems to work fine.. The eyes on the ends are aimed sharply inward now, but nothing is binding...

I have a Woods back blade and a Woods blower, just like your setup only smaller on a TC24D. I wondered the same the thing and got thinking why they might be set up the way they are. One thing that came to mind is that the blower is designed to be pushed with the 3PH arms, the blade pulled. The pins to the inside on the blower allow any outward pressure from the arms (since they are already spread to a degree) to push against the frame of the blower rather than the lynch pins. The opposite is true on implements that are pulled such as the back blade - any inward pressure pushes against the frame. The lynch pins are strong, but if they are loose or even have fallen out, at least the design would tend to keep it hooked up.

Probably thinking too much and it might not really matter, but the tractor doesn't talk to me and I have to keep my mind busy doing something while I'm out there /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Brad,

I think you are correct. I'll have to make a point to check the conntections often. This is only for times when I have the chains on, I generally don't use the rake much with the chains, but sometimes.. Thanks for your imput!
