I'm sure a lot of you were like me when you got your first car. When I was a teenager and got my first car, I poured money into it. I was always thinking of some way to improve it. Then, I got my first 4X4 (full size Blazer) and that was even worse. As soon as I added something, I would find out about something else to add to make it better: big mud tires, posi rear end, posi front end, lower gears, axle trusses, skid plates, winch, shift kit in trans, off road cam and other engine modifications, ... the list goes on.
Now, many years later, I'm married with 2 kids and I'm more tied down, so I don't have the time to hit the trails like I used to. My Jeep is pretty much stock, the only add-ons are a posi front end (it has a factory posi rear and already had low gears) and a winch. So, I'm starting to realize that the tractor has taken over as my "toy", since I don't have to leave home to use it. I didn't plan it this way, I bought it to save time when mowing my big yard (over 3 acres) and to keep the snow off the driveway. But, I'm finding myself making up a lot of that time doing other things. Part of my problem is that I feel like I have to justify the cost of it by getting more use out of it, so I feel I need to do more things, such as landscaping projects and building projects, which leads to adding more features and attachments. Does anyone else find themselves constantly looking for ways to spend money on their tractor? Is there any hope for me?
