I understand that most guys are getting 10 to 15% off list price on tractors. Should I expect the same discount off the implements and attachments I purchase with the tractor?
After a number of year's watching the buying experiences of folk's here on TBN; there are several notable elements to that process that have stood out - IMO:
The percentage of discount varies by locale. The northeast corridor, northern tier states (SD, ND, MT, WY) and many of the western states - have the most "tight fisted dealers". Mid west (IN, OH, PA, WI, MN) and southern states (GA, VA, TX, OK, KS) and west coast dealers are the most willing to "deal".
The percentage of discount varies by both tractor series and model. Lawn tractors and the smaller SCUT's and the "economy" models of smaller, mid and smaller Ag machines have the least margins and lower discounts. The "luxury" models of CUT's and Ag machines M series, Premium have a bigger margin and larger discounts, percentage-wise.
The percentage of discount has decreased during the current economic downturn. This is a real conundrum... Ag sales remain exceptional - production runs are at very high levels and deliveries are delayed. CUT's and SCUT and lawn tractor sales are down; but certainly not extreme - single digit decline. Expectations would be that the manufacturer's would be more receptive to prices softening. In lieu of price flexibility - they're attempting to bring buyer's into the showroom with favorable financing terms. Is that working...??
Unfortunately, the general observation of Canada sales is very similar to buying a tractor in upstate NY or CT or Vermont. They make those buffaloes "squeal" on every nickle!
Got a cousin in Indiana?
