I've noticed that some threads mention that the tractor engine oil gets black quickly. When I bought my new T2310, the dealer was quite insistent that I should allow them to dyno break-in the engine for 5 hours before the tractor was delivered. I ultimately could have refused but I allowed them to do so. He said that it was essential to seat the piston rings, immediately, to ensure that the tractor would perform correctly. He also told me to put the engine under heavy load in the last 10 hours before the 50 hour change.
By the time of the 50 hour oil change, the oil had turned to a medium dark grey (nowhere near black) and never thickened. I changed the oil at 50 hours. Now, at 72 hours, the oil is clear with a very, very light grey tint. The engine is very smooth and powerful running. I think that the dealer was right on the money in recommending the dyno break-in. Does anyone else have a similar experience with their tractor/ dealer?
