On my 2006 L3130 tractor I was having a problem with the hydraulics locking up. For example, I have two rear remotes (I can hook up to different attachments) and I had the backhoe hooked up to it. SO my backhoe lines plug into the quick connects. If I would be digging, it would lock up quite a bit. It would not lock up as much if I would run it at lower rpm's. The lock up I am referring to is if I start to dig and stop moving the lever, the tractor will sound like it is working and nothing will happen if I try to move the lever. I have to go to the remote lever that I have a bunjy cord on and release it, then push the lever the other direction, then pull it back to where it was. Sometimes it locks right back up and sometimes it doesnt. Like I said before, seems to happen more with higher RPMS.

Well the dealer ordered a new block for the backhoe which has maybe 2 hours on it.

Yesterday I was using the three point hitch log splitter on it and I have used it now for a couple of days after work. Now running it at 1800 rpms, it locks up with the splitter. If I release the remote lever and push it the other direction and then pull it back, the tractor doesnt seem like it is working, but as soon as I try to move the lever on the log splitter it locks up again.

The only way I can split wood is if I keep it under 1200 rpms. Then it will not lock up.

SO I know it is not just the backhoe, it has to do with the hydro on the tractor. I am guessing it is the pressure. I took it to the dealer and they dont work on tractors too much. They havent touched it since.

Sorry for the long post. Can someone give me some help on this? I have a bunch of wood to split and I want this to go away quickly.

Are you having the same kind of problem with the other hydraulic functions of the tractor? The front-end loader? Power steering glitchy? 3pt hitch lift OK and drop OK?

If you've got problems with those functions - it could be a plugged filter or your sump screen filter. Or if you "only" have problems with the BH and the log splitter - it could be just your sump filter.

But your description of the "problem" sounds like the system goes to relief (fluid spillover by the relief valve back into the sump area of the tractor/transmission) prematurely.

So, the problem really sounds like a bad (or stuck) relief valve. If that's the case; you should see symptoms with your loader and the 3pt. They would stall out easily and the system would go into "relief" with the tractor sounding like it's working - but not working.. And of course, if you've got a main implement hyd pump that's going south - you should also note problems with your loader and a weak 3pt, too (but a bad pump won't go into relief and quit working; things just work slower and not as strong).

My bet would be to check out the relief valve. Your dealer should be able to pressure test the hydraulic system and see if that's the problem.

Best of luck.

Three things come to mind for me:

1. The fluid is low-but I am sure you checked this...

2. You have a leak on the RETURN side of the system. You wouldn't see any external leaks but while the tractor is running it would suck air and cause the fluid to foam then the pump to cavitate. After running the tractor look in the fill hole and see if the fluid looks foamy.

3. You filter/return screen are clogged and the pump is starving. You did not mention the hours or service history on your machine.

PS> Please do not post the same question in multiple forums, it makes it VERY hard to help you when there are answers in different places.

The fluid is not low. That was the first thing I checked. Second, the front end loader has never given me a problem. Only difference is that the front end loader is hooked up in a different place on the tractor where it gets its fluid from. The three point hitch works like it always has and seems to work alright. The tractor now has 268 hours on it and it is probably been 200 hours since the last filter and oil change for the hydraulics. Like I said, the loader never has given me a problem. Just the hydraulics on the back. I am thinking pressure, but dealer hasnt given me any feedback.

Have a L3130 with Bradco 480 backhoe and just added two factory remotes for top and tilt. The connections for my backhoe are plumbed off the block under the right foot board using the power beyond line from the loader. Have three hoses with one looped with backhoe off to feed the 3 point hitch. I maybe guessing but when I installed the two remote valves the blocks and connecting passages and quick disconnects seemed to be on the small side and there may be a restriction making the bypass valve under the right floor board pop and dump everything back into the tank as you raise the rpm and increase the flow. With the larger disconnects that I have on my hoe I can still hear one of the fittings make noise as the fluid goes through it at higher rpms that I run the tractor so it maybe something for you to look at. I would also double check and make sure that you have the correct quick connects and that they seat good and have nothing in them.
