Does anybody have additional insurance on their tractor. I have a 3520 which is coverered by my homeowners but only on my property. I am looking to get insurance so that I can transport my tractor.

Yes I bought an additional policy from my insurance carrier for just my tractor and it is for a non negotiable amount of $22,000.00 should my tractor be stolen or destroyed...there will be no depreciation or haggling and I pay $122.00 per yr. for that peace of mind and I am covered anywhere my tractor is.

Who is your Insurance with? Mine will not do that.

Coverage for when you're on a trailer or for when you're working on other people's property?

If its only for when your shuttling your machine around for personal use, I'd check with your Auto insurance..

If your doing work "for profit" and want coverage on the machine itself, then thats a whole 'nuther ball of wax.

Stupid question/maybe an answer, but I think if you finance through JD and buy the optional insurance you are covered until you pay off the tractor. Maybe not the full amount though.

It's my understanding that if you do anything to damage the tractor they cover that.

Maybe a JD dealer familiar with it could chime in.

Of course our insurance is probably different here, I pay abt 120/yr and the tractor and attachments are covered anywhere I take the tractor even if I go over to a neighbors place and use it or haul it around on my flat deck. It is not covered for commercial use though and that is another 345.00 a year.

I am an insurance agent and owner of jd 4320. I live in Wisconsin. I have to question that you only have coverage on your property. This is true for liability coverage but for physical damage it's covered if on or off your property. just like any other personal property you have. Assuming personal use. I would ask your agent to show you the exclusion in the policy that shows it is not covered off your property for physical damage. I bet there is none.

My insurance policy (Erie) did not cover my tractors for anything, IF THEY'D EVER BEEN OFF MY PROPERTY , which happens, obviously, if you ever have to take it in for repair, or mow your neighbor's grass, etc... I had to buy a separate Inland Marine policy for them. I mentioned that in a thread here a few years ago, and a bunch of the guys found out they had the same problem. Seems to be a company-by-company thing - my brother's insurance (State Farm) does cover his, for instance.

I think the biggest detail (what my agent told me, which aligns with what you say) is WHY its off the property, Key words you mentioned...PERSONAL USE...Best way to explain is with examples we talked about...

-I trailer my tractor to the dealer to get it serviced or something like that...something happens along the way...COVERED.

-I drive my tractor over to the neighbor's house to help him snowblow the driveway and I smoke his mailbox, resulting in a destroyed mailbox and a damaged snowblower.... NOT Covered, 100% On my own.

What he told me was as long as what your doing is 100% for the service/support/maintenance of your PROPERTY (aka Home), the tractor is covered. The minute I do a favor for somebody or I charge someone then it basically becomes a "business tool" and is insured accordingly.

I think the "only on my property" catch prase is tricky...but at the same time, from an insurance agent's point of view (and even my own) there are relatively few reasons to have your tractor "Off the property" for 100% your personal use. About the ONLY reason I can think is the transport to have a new gadget installed or your machine serviced...
In my case, House & Auto policys are one stop shopping...my agent said anything that happens in transit would be covered by my Auto policy, so realistically, my homeowners policy really only does cover my tractor "on my property"...

I have asked my insurance agent about if my tractor is covered when I take it to plant a food plot on a farmer friends ground. He is still getting back to me on that. I want coverage for the tractor falling off the trailer, tree falling on it, etc.
