1952 8N, 2005 JD 5103
Hey guys...just a short note on tractor insurance. I just insured my JD 5103, 2 years old, for $71 a year. It was covered by homeowners but not while out working. In other words, if it caught fire while working, it was not covered. If it burned up in a barn fire, it was. Kind of tricky.... I covered it for 13K and it costs me 6 dollars a month for the life of the tractor. Not a bad cost for a little reassurance.

I have mine covered through my homeowner policy (at no extra expense), but wasn't aware of any exclusions as long as it's on my property and not being used commercially (they were adamant about that part). Maybe I need to give them a call and check. Also, because I have it financed, I guess it sufficed Kubota's req't for insurance, but if what you say applies to me, I want the extra protection.

What insurance company did you use, just in case my ins. co. says the same thing?

That's not bad if they are actually going to cover you when the time comes. My experience with insurance companies is that you have to read all the small print to find out you're not covered unless the fire ocurs on the third Tuesday during the hours of 3 to4 on a blue moon if the outside temperature is greater than 30 degrees and is empty of fuel.

I exaggerate, but you get my point. I have given up on insurance completely and only have what I'm required by law to posess.

Uninsured casualty loss' are deductible from your gross income so the "hit" isn't as bad as one would think.

$144 per year on my commercial truck policy; and I can hire out with it if I want to.:) The only exclusion is while it's being loaded onto a trailer.

My truck policy through a Maine company is less than Geico, Progressive, EtAl want for a noncommercial policy with less coverage.
