You might also want to have them replace the battery. It might start right up after a charge, but it may not hold it for long having sat for 18 months in who knows what state of charge.

What's the price for an 05 equivalent tractor?

The thing started right up. Ran it for about 10 minutes. Mow deck seemed a bit noisy but that might just be the nature of the beast. I requested a complete fluid/filter change and lube if I take delivery. I wondered about moisture and corrosion after sitting and not running over the course of a year and a half. Should I not care that it has sat for so long?

Hey BX1,

In my opinion, you need to work the tractor for about 1/2 day or even a full day, to see just exactly how the motor is holding up, cooling system, hydralics, and the mower. Since the mower is allready attached, then if you like the tractor. Make the best deal that you can, and in part of the deal, request that you be able to work the tractor for at least a 1/2 day, either at the dealership, mowing grass or at your place, doing the same thing. Don't exchange money's, until after the work period. That way, you will won't get stuck, just in case, the head gasket is leaking or the cooling system isn't working properly.

Most likely, the tractor, is fine, but for safety sake, the tractor, really needs to be put to work, to know for sure. Watch the coolant overflow, to see if any coolant is being lost, and look the engine and tractor over good, after the work period.

Best of Luck,

Get your tractors running &
Have a nice day,

In response to Joe1's question, the price difference was about $1,120 before taxes, $1,350 after taxes between a fresh one out of a crate and this one. I went ahead and purchased it. Pictures and description are in the Kubota Buying Pricing Forum. And I ran the heck out of it this past Saturday after it was delivered. I jumped on it about 1:30 and got off about 6:30. The temp gauge ran on the low side. The only complaint was the noise from the mow deck. And the fact that it was not level. It might need some greasing. I was told it was greased before delivery but there was no fresh grease anywhere on the zerks. I asked about the air filter bracket and the supposed service bulletin about them breaking. They told me they would take care of it. They painted over the rust. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The PTO cover was missing. They forgot the MMM manual. The only plus I guess is the fact that they did atleast deliver it for free (55 miles one way).

Thanks. Push for the PTO cover as a safety item. They probably took it off this tractor to put on another missing it. They can do the same for you.

Good luck with you new tractor. Did you have them change all the fluids?

BX1,

Congrats on your new tractor.

On the mower, check the cleanliness of the underside of the deck as well. If there's a buildup of grass inside from people doing test drives in wet grass, that can make noise as well.

Thanks. No I did not push for the fluid change. On their recommendation though I will change all the filters at 10 hours.

The underside of the deck was spotless. The sound ws different than the normal "prop" sound that a mow deck makes. It was more of a high pitched whining sound. I'll out a pump or two of grease and see if that quietens it up any.
