Tractor Papers

Does JD send any papers when you pay your tractor off? Does a tractor come with a title of any kind? I paid mine off about a month ago and haven't gotten anything stating the tractor was officially mine. I do see where the loan is listed as now closed online and I got a check from JD for almost $2 for overpayment.

Best I can remember I was mailed a copy of the contract showing paid off.
No title though, don't need the state goverment involved in everything.

You should be in their computer with model and serial numbers showing ownership I would guess.

Being a newbie at the time, I asked about a title too when I paid mine off and there is none.

Tractors don't have title - I think they should as much as they cost. Then the Government would want to hose us on it I bet.

JD Credit has sent me back the original loan papers showing paid off.

Also, I just found on their credit section you can request a letter showing it is all paid off:

Depending in which state you live you may need various official papers if you want commercial tags for your tractor. This is common in the northern and some western states for tractors used in commercial snow removal for example. These tractors tend to range in size from large compact to huge, make intensive use of public roads and are much more likely to be involved in traffic accidents than other tractors, thus the need for truck type documentation for the tractor (commercial tags, registration, proof of insurance, etc) as well as for the driver (driver's license of the appropriate class, business operator permits, etc). It can be quite a hassle.

I grew up in New Orleans where we had two brake tag inspections per year at a city run facility, checked alignment, brakes, lighting, windshield ect ect.

I now live in Ruidoso, New Mexico the state has no inspections here at all. The police will still cite you for lighting and most things that are safety related.

Guess where the most POS vehicles were seen on the roads.

Thanks for that link. I'm hot/cold on the question of a title..

As someone who has spent many years in the public sector; I recognize the "house" that is constructed whenever somebody wants the "Government" to do something!

Data, records, transfers, recording, mailings, notices. And somebody to manage that stuff! FEES...

But, a record trail makes it alot more difficult for criminal enterprises to operate...
