Why is it that tractor dealers won't put prices on their websites like car dealerships do? It would be nice to look online and at least get an idea. Don't wanna drive to another town just to walk around looking. Might as well not have a website.

Some do. Especially those who offer "package deals" with implements and/or trailers. I bought my Branson from Big Reds in Texas and had it shipped to Arizona. The shipping was less than the tax would have been, so saved a bit. (plus there are no local Branson dealers).

You can usually find MSRP's on the MFG's websites.

I think there is some clause that they are not allowed to advertise a price below a certain point or they can get in trouble with the MFG. Dont know if thats just and excuse, hearsay, or totally bogus, but have heard that before.

But at the end of the day, even if they advertised a price......how many people actually walk in and pay that amount?

Around here there's a Kubota dealer not too far away that advertises some package deals on the radio. I just don't remember what it was. Website says call for quote. Mahindra dealer across the street says same thing on their website.

For new machines most won't so that they can assure that potential buyers are comparing apples to apples so they usually prefer that a sales professional give you a quote imao (but typically their oems have some form of retail pricing available). Just too many options on tractors anymore to just throw a price out there, as you get closer and closer to the 100 hp range the options that you cant see while driving by can add up to over 50-60k in a heart beat. Another reason is the oem and lending arm have programs that change constantly and are different in many cases depending on where the buyer resides, dealers really are juggling a lot of different changing info that affects the price. Usually when you see something new advertised it has reason, like maybe it's an aged piece and must go so is already showing a healthy discount, or it is a package deal they have came up with (normally not done w/ hi-spec units you want that price to get attention). Any reputable tractor dealer with a good website however usually publishes the prices for all of their used equipment.
